Last NIght's F Train Delays and Helicopters Over LIC Caused By Subway Shooting Of Police Officers

Video from the NY Post

Did you experience delays on the Roosevelt Island F train or see the 4 helicopters hovering over Long Island City last night and wonder what was going on? A reader directs us to this NY Times City Room blog entry that reports two NYC Police officers were shot inside our neighboring 21st - Queensbridge subway station on the F line.
Well into the night, F trains bypassed the subway station in both directions as the police investigation continued. As of 10:29 p.m. the Metropolitan Transportation Authority continue to warn passengers of delays in service along the line, which travels between Jamaica, Queens, and Coney Island, Brooklyn, via Manhattan.
The NY Post describes yesterday's 5:15 PM shooting which occurred while the Police Officers were attempting to arrest an individual using a fake student Metro Card to enter the subway:
A fare-beater caught sneaking into a Queens subway last night coldly shot two cops with one of their own guns after he knocked them to the station-platform floor, authorities said.

The gunman then bolted - weapon still blazing at the wounded Anti Crime transit cops - and ran into a lieutenant who dodged the suspect's bullets and pumped four of his own into him.
As to the Police Officers condition, The NY Times reports that:
Officer Farina, 38, who had surgery late Tuesday night, was in critical but stable condition. Officer Maass, 28, was in stable condition and was expected to be released Wednesday morning.
Here's wishing the Police Officers a full and speedy recovery!
