Roosevelt Island Public Safety Department Responds To Blackwell Park Assault/Robbery & Attempted Jump From Roosevelt Island Bridge

The 8/18-19 daily Roosevelt Island Public Safety Report indicated the following two incidents:
Robbery/ Assault- PSD arrested a subject.
and:
Aided/EDP- A male threatened to kill himself by jumping off of the R.I. Bridge. PSD, NYPD and EMS responded. Male was taken to the hospital by EMS. No injuries.
I asked Roosevelt Island Public Safety Department Director Keith Guerra to provide additional information as to what happened during these incidents. Mr. Guerra responded:
ROBBERY/ASSAULT: 2 victims- both off-islanders-
At 7:30PM, an anonymous male reported to PSD that numerous males were using weapons to harm others near Blackwell Park. A canvass of the area was conducted. One of our officers made contact with one assault victim (who also had his back-pack taken). He gave a description of a subject, and was observed by another officer attempting to flee the Subway area, and was taken into custody. While in the station-house with subject number #1, PSD located the 2nd assault victim.

The subject in custody was identified by a witness of the incident, along with three others (not yet apprehended). The subject that was in custody is 15 years-old. One of the wanted subjects is 17 years-old, and the age of the remaining two males is unknown at this time.

The arrested subject was charged with-- Robbery, Assault with intent to cause injury with a weapon, Gang Assault, resisting arrest and Harassment 2nd degree; physical contact.

One victim refused medical attention (RMA) and the other was transported to the hospital.
and:
Aided Case-Suicide Attempt: At 2:59AM, a 30 year old island resident attempted to commit suicide by jumping off 36th Ave bridge. The DOT employees observed and detained him on the Vernon Blvd. side of the bridge and alerted PSD. PSD responded to the location. NYPD was also on scene. The Aided was transported to Hospital.
The Public Safety Reports for the most recent week are posted daily on the blog's middle sidebar.

The Youth Center does not have nearly enough staff at these games. And, most of the people playing are from off-island. I was there when this whole thing broke out, and it seemed like off-islanders beating on off-islanders. Charlie DelFino needs to get a better handle on this.

if you are a witness to this it would probably help out the public safety department on bringing the others wanted to justice. posting anonymous on a blog does not help if you have information leading to a possible arrest.

I don't know these people. As I said, they were off-islanders. I was just commenting on the lack of workers from the Youth Center at these games. Maybe some RIRA members can volunteer to help out, since they've been talking about how to help the youth on the island.

One of the people who beat up the boys lives on the island. He's a youth that's in the island gang.

call that dude for gang meeting 2010!

If you really know who he is then turn him in. Otherwise your statement is useless. Hopefully one day I can see the piece of garbage for myself and I can guarantee he will need help after our "discussion"
Any illegal activity should be called into the NYPD right away which will put a stop to anything in the future.

One off-islander and one islander already arrested, more to follow. I suggest people involved turn themselves in to public safety before they have to go around snatching people off the street.

I would enjoy watching the "thugs" get snatched off the street. Maybe some time in Rikers will do them well!!! There must be a ZERO tolerance for this and all similar type of behavior. All residents of RI need to have the same attitude and resolve!!!!

some little boy no more than 10 years old was talking about it proudly on the street saying he saw a wooden cane being used. when I asked him what he was referring to his response was "f*ck you ni**er you aint my momma"

This is the roosevelt island youth.
