Hopefully this will be the start of a new revitalized Main Street.
I am eager to show off a lovely thriving street and not appologize for its dark appearance.

If they do a good job of attracting appealing retail and either Stanford or Columbia actually take over the Goldwater campus, maybe Roosevelt Island will begin to become the place I hoped it would be when I moved here 34 years ago.

Wouldn't that be something!   (We are too small, though.)

Absolutely. Long Island City/Astoria would also benefit.

Trader Joes would thrive here.. Gristedes would lose a ton of business and people will shop at trader joes versus having to go to trade fair or costco (for the most part) the prices are reasonable and would allow for all socioeconomic levels to shop at trader joes..

Dream on - there isn't enough foot traffic to support a TJs.  However, a moderate size health food store with a take-out section such as Natural Frontier Market - a branch of which has recently opened in LIC - might survive on RI.  Whatever does open definitely has to be priced moderate to try to compete with Costco which everybody can go to either on foot or by bike/car.  Also, the incredible freshness/quality of Costco they would have to beat - a tall order for any grocer.
