As described by prominent art critic Thomas B. Hess, the Louis Kahn/FDR Memorial design is:

... the sort of political edifice that the Italian fascists loved and Speer perfected for the glory of the Third Reich... The site itself is treated heartlessly. What was a modest, picturesquely rugged shoreline has been disciplined to straight lines and symetrical angles that have no significance beyond the alarming one of man's ability to impose a meaningless geometry on nature. The ultimate irony is that Roosevelt, who fought totalitarians to the death, is commemorated in the harsh style propogated by the dictators.

Here's the panoramic view of NYC skyline and East River Waterfront that will be forever ruined if Kahn design is built at Southpoint Park. It is also an enormous waste of public taxpayer money.

WELCOME TO ROOSEVELT ISLAND

Roosevelt Island is a mixed income, racially diverse waterfront community situated in the East River of New York City between Manhattan and Queens and is jurisdictionally part of Manhattan. The Roosevelt Island Aerial Tramway, which connects Roosevelt Island to Manhattan has become the iconic symbol of Roosevelt Island to its residents.

The Purpose of this Blog is to provide accurate and timely information about Roosevelt Island as well as a forum for residents to express opinions and engage in a dialogue to improve our community.

For Visitors, some suggestions as to what to do on Roosevelt Island and a virtual tour.

The northern section of Southpoint Park, with access to view the Renwick Ruins Smallpox Hospital, is now open. The Southern Section, site of the Kahn/FDR Memorial Boondoggle is scheduled to open in the fall of 2012.

Investigation - At 20 River Road a female saw a vehicle with a male inside and believed that he was following her. male got out of vehicle and looked around as if lost then left without incident.
