Good Job By Roosevelt Island Public Safety Department Providing Main Street Water Station For Thirsty Residents During Heat Wave

Good job by the Roosevelt Island Public Safety Department providing a water station in front of their Main Street HQ

for thirsty Roosevelt Islanders

to get some relief

during the Heat Wave.

The Blackwell Park Water Fountain also provided

some refreshing relief.

Did you take a dip in the fountain?

Fortunately, the heat wave has subsided and the weather has cooled down a bit.

The water of the sprinklers behind the Blackwell house is drinkable tap water. It's just a bit messy to drink from it but it works.

The lawn sprinklers or the water fountain?

The river----take a dunk.

Right. Lawn sprinklers.

What you are referring to - lawn sprinklers or the Blackwell Park Water Fountain - or something else?

Sprinklers... the one where the kids play. Not the fountain in front.

Oh, OK. Even if it is potable, I don't know if I'd drink water from a sprinkler or ornamental park fountain. I always wondered if ornamental park fountain water is recirculated (to save water). I would only drink water from a regular water fountain. If someone were running through a sprinkler on a hot day and chanced to lap up some of the water, that would probably be OK - it's only a bit of it.

We need a couple of those floating outdoor swimming pools on RI - like they have at Bklyn Br Park. Just repair the pier, open PierNYC again along with some cabanas, hire a lifeguard, then anchor the pools by the pier. You have - the view, food, drink, swimming; you do not have - long subway or car ride to the beach.

A steep drop? Probably not.. at least not according to my feline super sixth sense.. But, it's anybody's guess how long the mkt will stay up. Why do you think investors will want to fold their positions and pocket money just now?

what happened to Pier NYC, btw? Did it not make enough money?

RIOC was unable to repair the pier in time to make it worth it for the restaurant to open for part of, instead of, the entire season. That would have required temporary/makeshift repairs to stabilize the pier deterioration only - not the complete overhaul that is needed, which will take much longer. The pier was heavily damaged by Sandy.
