Charlene Indelicato: It is significant that you don't deny running a program of rodent eradication, saying you will now switch to traps rather than poison. We have in the blog story, plenty of residents complaining about candy-colored and shaped rat poison strewn about the island indiscriminately, along with dead squirrels. To me, at least, you are admitting you set the candy-colored and shaped rat poison down, which has resulted in the death of squirrels, no doubt in addition to rats.

Could you please let us know if squirrels are also a target of the rodenticide measures, and if so, why? I want to hear the rationale for eradicating squirrels, Charlene.

And, in the interest of child safety, could you please direct your grounds crew to remove the dead squirrels and also place in accessible locations such as down sewer gratings, the rat poison pellets? I know I am going to be throwing away the rat poison pellets whenever I see them - before a kid decides, That is strawberry candy, that looks like a yummy treat, let me try it! We all know little kids want to "try" everything, Charlene! Doesn't the City always post notices when putting down rat poison in parks and along subway tracks, for example? Don't we deserve the same courtesy, so that we can be extra-vigilant around the candy-colored and shaped rat poison pellets?

Charlene Indelicato: You and RIOC are tempting fate by putting down candy-colored and shaped rat poison throughout the island, without also posting signs that rat poison has been put down in the area!

That's funny. After mentioning two things in total (the FDR memorial and Scott's sweets store) she ended with "so many things to do" but she "had to catch the tram" back home. Huh. I am happy for the free advertisement, though. Hopefully it gets some more customers into Main Street Sweets.

I understand the need for control measures when it comes to the rat population, but surely it is common sense (not to mention common courtesy) to clearly notify the community before and during any poison pellets being laid? Whomever is responsible for this has unnecessarily been harming squirrels (and perhaps other unintended wildlife) and risked the health of our children and pets. Whether it was stupidity or thoughtlessness, I hope that there will be some sort of repercussion.

Just something you may be interested in: the absence of something does not prove the opposite. You should take a lesson in elementary logic.

Meaning? The presence of dead squirrels doesn't prove the rat poison that was put down by RIOC killed them? Is that what you're trying to say?

No, her not denying means that she is guilty of it.
