Here We Go Again, No Roosevelt Island F Train Service From Manhattan This Weekend - Long Island City 7 Train Weekend Outage Too And They Don't Like It Either

 According to the MTA:
F Jamaica-bound trains run via the E after 47-50 Sts to Roosevelt Av

Weekend, 9:45 PM Fri to 5 AM Mon, Jan 17 - 20

No Jamaica-bound service at 57 St, Lexington Av/63 St, Roosevelt Island and 21 St-Queensbridge.
Our neighbors across the East River in Long Island City will begin to experience weekend subway service outages too. According to LIC Post:
... the MTA will be shutting down No. 7 train service between Times Square and Queensboro Plaza for 22 weekends this year.

Furthermore, some of the local service between Queensboro Plaza and Flushing will be suspended for some of those weekends.

“22 weekends of closures in 2014 is outrageous and will hurt hundreds of thousands of people and threatens to kill our small businesses,” said Councilman Jimmy Van Bramer. “Enough is enough.”

Rebecca Trent, who owns the Creek and the Cave at 10-93 Jackson Avenue, said the weekend service outages are devastating to local businesses. “I’m trying to elevate the scene in Long Island City,” she said, “but it’s tough if people can’t get here.”

Trent, who also runs LIC Eateries, a group comprised of a number of neighborhood restaurants, said that the members are extremely unhappy.

“The MTA just comes on in and says: ‘Here’s the schedule [of closures], now go F-yourself,” Trent said. “The MTA has to start to recognize that we can’t be treated like this—that business people have families to look after… and businesses have to survive.”...

That is true - rats are of course also extremely adaptable, versatile, and intelligent. They are also incredibly destructive and sometimes (though not always) disease vectors. Rodent elimination should be relentlessly pursued - but it seems the City has more or less given up on the war vs. rats.

Not always. There is unfortunately the problem of storm overflow - when the system can't handle the volume of waste. In those instances, Budulay is right - it all does go directly into the E. River - which is actually a disgusting cesspool (although better today than 40 years ago).

It's true - the police/PSD will never enforce ordinances against feeding birds, at least not enforce them against casual feeders. Pigeons, gulls, squirrels, etc - all form a special tapestry of natural life on RI. They should be protected.

What do you mean "visitors to NY"? Regular New Yorkers, the full-time residents, are the most litter-prone people on earth! Tourists are usually more respectful/considerate with their trash!

Have New Yorkers really cleaned up their act and become more "gentrified"? I doubt it. Look at the trains - rolling rodent restaurants because of New Yorkers' nonstop dining/drinking/littering! And it'll never end.. thus, our problem with rodents will never end...

I would like to request help from all Roosevelt Islanders to denounce the abuse and "PARENT ABDUCTION" of HELENA EASTMAN DUARTE GUZMAN by involved people in that crime Lisa Lu Britton, Dr. Simone Duarte, Maria Dioceia Marconi Duarte, Ramiro Mendonca Murata, Monica Mello de Castro, Dr. Deepak Saxena and Elizabeth Dianne Rekow. The child HELENA EASTMAN DUARTE GUZMAN, was abducted from WATERSIDE PLAZA in September 2009, when she was 3 years old. The last place she was viewed was in ROOSEVELT ISLAND. PLEASE HELP TO DENOUNCE THAT CRIME. http://bit.ly/Lwwf7q

It is just New York thing to through garbage on the street. No other city I been too has this culture (no culture)...

It is human waste that create rodent issue in this city. Not bird feeding

I had a feeling that Caroline has a self entitlement mentality. She knows and decides for all the islanders and visitors..and animals :)

I just overheard 2 people complaining that their tap water was brown, Be careful not to drink any if it effects you.

Traveling to another place and criticizing the locals for their behavior. How very American of you.

That's because there's a 500 pound fine for feeding them... Aren't you defending that practice?

Which, for the most part, is a rare occurrence.

How so? Back in 2001, the Feds got involved (after fed envirnonmental laws were being violated) and they got things in shape, with the probation ending in 2009.

There is some improvement - the E. River isn't as much of a cesspool as it used to be, but it is still disgusting.

CheshireKitty said...

Not so sure it's that rare. There's a hot spot of water pollution by Hallet's Cove all the time, so there must be an outflow pipe there dumping sewage. I can forward you a few links on the condition of the E. River if you wish. Contact me through Rick/fb.

Is the F train running both ways this weekend? That is the million dollar question all that live on RI want to know every single FRIDAY of every week. when will it end?

That Million Dollar question can easily be answered if you checked MTA's web site.

http://web.mta.info/weekender/lineview.html?r=f

And yes, the train will be running in both directions.
