Meditation Steps and other RI outdoor areas would be even better with free public wifi as Mayor Bloomberg promised would be available at the end of 2013 but which is not.

I've been out of town for a week and came back to see a massive tree limb torn away from one of the maple trees on the Southtown lawn near the subway station. Does anyone know what happened? There is a big black section in the wood at the point where the branch tore away. Is it some kind of illness or interior rot that caused the damage? Lightning?

There is a three-day notice newly taped to the door of the unfinished wine store showing that some $38,000 is owed to the landlord. Does anyone have any details?

I am happy to see that the notice is gone and that work has resumed. The door was open today (blocked, so you couldn't walk in while they were working) and the space looks nice.

Today: Fact sheet on crime: de Blasio directs over $200 mil of City money to fight the 31% increase in shootings in housing developments (Queensbridge listed as one of the developments to receive funding for the new anti-violence effort) despite the overall drop in the City's crime rate. On July 30th, at the RIOC Real Estate Advisory Committee Meeting, H-R stated that a store space would be made available to the Cabrini Thrift Shop and that a lease would be issued to the Parish for the new space. I know this for a fact as I was there and I was the one who asked Kramer the question if he would issue a lease to the Parish for the new store space.

So far, H-R has not offered the Thrift Shop a store space: Instead is offering only a *storage* space - the former Boy Scouts space in Westview. H-R has thus, at least until now, reneged on its public promise, made to all, including RIOC Board members, and members of the community and Parish.

As well, the business model of the Thrift Shop, a philanthropic fund-raising volunteer-run business, does not include monies to be diverted to non-charitable purposes such as a rental payment. For this reason, because the proceeds of the Thrift Shop go toward helping the poor on RI, it was correctly not charged rent by RIOC. Now that H-R is the master leaseholder, and demanding 35 or 45/sq foot, which the Thrift Shop not only cannot afford, but which is a sin to direct to the H-R organization rather than to benefit the poor, our community's charitable project which is operated to help the poor, is being destroyed.

I ask every reader to complain about H-R reneging on its public promise to voice their concerns to RIOC and to the elected officials, especially those in Albany!

What Kramer of H-R is attempting to do, is an injustice and travesty of the first order - H-R must honor its publicly stated promise to make available a store - not a *storage* - space to the Thrift Shop on Main St along with a lease, immediately.

If any reader wishes to contact me about a petition/leafleting drive regarding the above, please do so through the blog. Thanks.
