Roosevelt Island Westview Building Pool Opens - Excellent Renovation Job

The Roosevelt Island Westview Building pool renovation is completed and is now open.

The pool is currently only open to residents of Westview and Island House

but will allow others to join next month.

The men's and women's locker rooms were very clean.

There is also an exercise gym

and a sauna.

In addition to the newly renovated Westview Pool, Roosevelt Island has indoor pools at Sportspark and Rivercross as well as outdoor pools at Manhattan Park and the Octagon.

I think Mark was on to something, but I'm still not sure it's this black and white: did the food truck vendors specifically say they didn't want to come back to the island because of the permits?

regarding taxis - if I were a driver I wouldn't want to go to the island, and I actually agree with those drivers that grumble when I've asked them to drop me on the island... but that's a logistical issue, not a permit issue.

All valid (though it's starting to sound like no vendor expressly stated they wouldn't come because of the fee...). Oh Well. if I were them I wouldn't come for lack of business anyway. I guess island residents are stuck with the same old crap from the grill - where the only thing worth consuming comes from a sealed bottle with an anheuser logo. China 1 is still the best food on the island.

Rossie: How right you are; Taxis (that is, yellow cabs) always grumble re trips to outer boroughs anyway, and RI is even worse, as it's even less likely they'll pick up a fare going back to Manhattan.

The burgers are not too bad at the B&G. The beers on tap get worse and worse. Long gone are the days when I could get a Brooklyn Lager (not saying this is the best beer but leagues better than what they have now.) The well-drinks are a catastrophe but that may be a problem with the bartender. What else? Salads and anything else but the burgers on the menu are really not good.

I really tried long and hard to like the Bar & Grill and even though it is a sports bar (famous "excuse" from the owner from discussion threads from long ago) but I really cannot recommend anything else but the burgers and fries.

absolutely agreed. The grill is a waste of time and money. the last time I went was last summer - after waiting over an hour for our food we bailed. wasted a perfectly good summer lunch. had pancakes with fruit one time - no fruit arrived, asked for it, got a sliver of canteloupe and a slice of an orange. It seemed to be intended as an insult. I couldn't possible come up with a good excuse to go back.

After a hard game of Zogs Kickball, maybe a pitcher (or five) at Riverwalk B&G might make way too loud music and beer pong acceptable. With all the noise (no one paying attention to music or sports), it means patrons must speak at shouting level. Thus, not an attractive place for a date; and not an attractive place to bring a buddy.

Seems their winning formula is tanking up the Zoggers. However, Islanders have the last laugh because of the screwed up weekend F-train service, there's a 50-50 chance that drunken Zogger has a sploding bladder and a half-hour detour through Jackson Heights. Go Google:

zogs peed myself roosevelt island

and you'll get 207,000 hits. :-)
