Variations On A Roosevelt Island Lighthouse Theme - Glowing Like The Northern Lights, At Dawn, Between Your Fingers And A Walk Around

Various perspectives on the Roosevelt Island Lighthouse.

And a walk around the Roosevelt Island Lighthouse shortly after the footbridges, washed away by Hurricane Sandy, were replaced last July.

The Roosevelt Island Historical Society  and The Bowery Boys tell us about the strange history of our Lighthouse.

Ed Beyea is one that I know died in the WTC.

The heroic programmer that stayed with him to the end and was singled out for his heroism and self-sacrifice by Pres. Bush, was Abraham Zelmanowitz. Here are some articles about Mr. Zelmanowitz

Because it is a government agency and there still has to be one invented that does everything 100% to its constituents' likings. It's not like the RIRA is 100% perfect or has 100% of its residents in mind when it comes to decisions. Just sayin'

I'm not an arborist but it was sad to see the photos of the roots of the tree hacked - especially of that particular tree, which has a plaque before it identifying it as the 911 victims memorial tree.

I think the contractors were installing a sprinkler system in the area but I don't see why they had to hack at the tree roots that way. Also, why weren't there any RIOC personnel around supervising the contractor? They could have tried to protect the tree.

Probably, despite the destruction, the tree will make it; it probably has enough of a root system to make up for the loss of what looks to be some major roots. I hope the tree survives the brutal treatment, but if it doesn't, we can "thank" whoever hired this particular outfit, which wasn't respectful of the tree.

Motorgate: Hazardous Materials, Faulty Cameras Watch *PSD Officers' Cars*, But Not Your Cars on 3A, 4A, 4B, 4C, 5A, 5B, 6A, 6B, 7A, 7C.

[Full letter at: ""]

To RIOC Board:

Since my September 8 E-mail there are still problems with Motorgate cameras, including many of them pointing away from customers' cars. In summary, cars parked on 3A, 4A, 4B, 4C, 5A, 5B, 6A, 6B, 7A, and 7C are not being watched, among other areas of Motorgate. It appears that the cameras on floor 7 seem to be repositioned regularly towards PSD officers' personal cars, who park on 7 South near the elevator. These cameras are repositioned to only watch a few cars and leave the rest unmonitored. Here is what the camera is watching: [see photo 1].

There seems to be construction work around the floor 4 south-east fire stairwell, again the cameras are pointing at the construction, and not at customers cars. [see photo 2]

The construction work is obstructing the fire exit, there are hazard materials (oxidizers) adjacent to the other chemicals, and the oxidizer canister is corroded. These hazards need to be corrected immediately. [see photos 3, 4, and 5]

Considering that the cameras are pointing towards the construction area, a test of the operational effectiveness would be to report back who has created and access this construction area. Could you please provide me with the date/times and persons who accesses this area? RIOC Board Member Mike Shinozaki promised to investigate and respond, but I have not heard from him in almost a month.
