Roosevelt Island Girl Scout Brownie Troop 3001 Learn Dance Moves From Main Street Theater & Dance Alliance Instructor Barbara Parker - Brownies On Way To Earn Their Dancer Badge

Roosevelt Island Girl Scout Troop 3001 Leader Aiesha Eleusizov shares these photos and reports:

On Monday evening, September 28, Barbara Parker from Main Street Theater and Dance Alliance (MST&DA) generously donated her time to help Girl Scout Brownie Troop 3001 on Roosevelt Island earn their Dancer Badge!

She taught the girls some fun dance moves as well as how to choreograph their own dance!

The girls had a great time dancing with attitude!

A big thank you to Barbara for supporting our local Girl Scout Troop!

To earn the Dancer Badge, the girls must complete 5 requirements. Barbara helped them to complete the first 3 of these. She taught them how to warm up their bodies before they dance, taught them how to use their face and body to express feeling through dance and taught them new dance steps. She taught them how to choreograph their own dance by creating sets of 8 count moves (or "bars") and how to combine 4 bars into a "phrase".

The girls will need to use the skills that Barbara taught them to complete their final two requirements - to create and perform their own dance and to teach the dance they created to their friends.

It is wonderful that civic-minded community members like Barbara and nonprofits like MST&DA partner and work together to support the youth on our island!
