Sad News, Roosevelt Island Mourns Sudden Death Of Long Time RIOC Employee Juan "Tony" Martinez, Condolences To His Family, Friends & Co-Workers

Roosevelt Island Operating Corp (RIOC) Public Information Officer reports sad news of long time RIOC employee Juan "Tony" Martinez sudden death last Saturday. According to Mr. Robertson:

We are sad to inform Roosevelt Island residents and employees of the Roosevelt Island Operating Corporation that longtime employee Juan “Tony” Martinez, died this past Saturday night, July 28, in a drowning incident at a beach near Shirley, Long Island, N.Y.

Martinez, a resident of Manorville, L.I., was 53-years-old and a RIOC employee since May 16, 2000. He was the father of five children.

He was a highly-regarded employee and friend to many of his co-workers.

“This is a very sad day,” said RIOC Community Affairs Director Erica Spencer-EL who worked with Martinez on numerous projects and special events including the recent Fourth of July extravaganza, Roosevelt Island Day

and the recent Good Shepherd Plaza plinth unveiling.

“He was definitely an enthusiastic team player,” she said. “He loved music, playing the drums, softball, baseball; he really enjoyed living life.”

Sean Singh, another RIOC employee, said Martinez’s personality was infectious. “He was always very easy-going, I never found him in a bad mood,” Singh said. “He was one of those guys who always would come up and say hello.”

Additional information about Martinez’s funeral services have yet to be announced.
