NYC Coronavirus Health Emergency Forces Cancellation Of Roosevelt Island In Person Religious Services - Online Streaming Available For Cabrini And Mosaic Churches

The Roosevelt Island Jewish Congregation (RIJC) reported yesterday the cancellation of Friday services and programs due to the Coronavirus health emergency.

Today, the NY Archdiocese announced

which includes Roosevelt Island's

St Francis Xavier Cabrini Church. Father Richard Baker of East River Catholics adds that Sunday Mass will be streamed online from their Facebook Page:
Mass will be aired at Noon from our Church on First Avenue on Facebook.
The Mosaic Roosevelt Island Church (formerly known as Hope) is also cancelling it's in person Sunday Service and streaming it live.

According to the Mosaic Roosevelt Island Church:
Rising concerns about the spread of Coronavirus in the United States have brought a sense of urgency to ensure that Mosaic Church maintains a healthy environment for our community. New information is coming out every day and it is important we take some measures to strengthen & communicate our commitment to a healthy church. We will not panic but we will be prepared.

At this time, we are suspending all formal physical gatherings of Mosaic Church.

We are moving all services and midweek groups to online platforms for live streaming....
Mosaic Roosevelt Island Pastors Dan & Amanda Sadlier explain:

The Chabad of Roosevelt Island report that they are not cancelling programs at this time:
Considering that we are relatively a small community, it gives us the advantage of having programs with not very large participation. Whereas other synagogues and religious groups have canceled their services, because participation is in the 100s, we don't have that "problem".
  1. We have already announced to those that are quarantined a Kosher Food Delivery Service.
  2. We have been following all instructions from the national, state and local government instruction.
  3. We plan to continue our activities that are safe to continue, obviously with extra precaution.
  4. If schools will be closed, we would implement a Talmud Torah (Jewish activities) for those locally that would like to participate.
Wishing you a Shabbat shalom and good health!
Don't know about plans for the Good Shepherd Episcopal Church or the Roosevelt Island Islamic community.
