Roosevelt Island Residents Tell MTA They Can't Cut Off Our Bus Service With Proposed Queens Bus Redesign Plan And We Think They Got Message - Coler Rehab, Octagon, Cornell Tech & FDR Park In Danger Of Losing Bus Service

Last Wednesday evening, a group of about10 Roosevelt Island residents got on a Red Bus provided by the Roosevelt Island Operating Corp (RIOC) to attend the MTA's Queens Bus Redesign workshop


held at the Jacob Riis Settlement in Long Island City. Residents of Roosevelt Island's Coler Rehab and Long Term Facility attended the workshop as well.

Here's the proposed new MTA Bus route to serve Roosevelt Island and replace the existing Q102 route.

Momo, the First NYC Health & Hospitals Therapy Dog, Making Friends & Giving Stress Relief For Residents At Her New Roosevelt Island Coler Rehab & Long Term Care Home

Momo, the first NYC Health & Hospital Corp Therapy Dog,


was introduced to the Roosevelt Island Coler Rehabilitation and Long Term Care community last January.

NBC New York Channel 4 News visited Momo at Coler recently and shows  us she's found a new home and friends here on Roosevelt Island.

Engaged Roosevelt Island Hosting Eco-Ambassador Meet Up Wednesday February 5, You're Invited To Learn About RI Environmental Sustainability Efforts - Watch Video Of Earlier RI Community Sustainability Conversation



Engaged Roosevelt Island was formed last year:
... to promote environmental understanding and boost sustainable practices on Roosevelt Island. Throughout the year there will be engagement events to foster collaboration with residents, community groups, schools, building managers, island businesses, RIOC, RIRA and elected officials toward a cleaner and healthier neighborhood.
Engaged Roosevelt Island is hosting its third event Wednesday evening, February 5, from 6:30 - 7:30 PM at Good Shepherd Chapel (543 Main Street):
  • with an Eco-Ambassadors Meet Up for sustainable planning, 
  • review of survey results (take the survey here) and 
  • to hear smart sorting tips from Sanitation Expert Sam Sepulveda.

Do You Remember 2019 Roosevelt Island Cherry Blossom Festival Massive Crowds Creating Transportation Chaos? Won't Happen Again This Year, RIOC Says No Cherry Blossom Festival For 2020

The Roosevelt Island Cherry Blossom Festival began as a small local event organized by the Roosevelt Island Residents Association (RIRA) in 2011to support relief efforts on behalf of Japanese earthquake victims. Each succeeding year, the Roosevelt Island Cherry Blossom Festival attracted more and more people until massive crowds arrived last year, (approximately 40 thousand people) overwhelming the Roosevelt Island transportation system. Roosevelt Island was fortunate that there were no injuries or worse.

MTA Proposed Queens Bus Network Redesign Plan Will Reduce Roosevelt Island Bus Service - Let Your Voice Be Heard At MTA Queens Bus Meeting February 4 In LIC To Discuss Plan, RIOC Will Provide Free Red Bus Service To Roosevelt Island Residents Wishing To Attend

As previously reported, the MTA's proposed draft Queens Bus Network Redesign Plan will eliminate the current Q102 bus route serving Roosevelt Island and replace it with a new route (QT78) that:

... will travel on 36th avenue to and from Roosevelt Island bringing better access to Astoria but will no longer travel the current circuitous route to Queens Plaza.

It appears that the new Roosevelt Island NYC Bus Service does not cover area north of the Roosevelt Island Bridge including Coler Hospital and the Octagon Building or south of the Tram Station as the current Q102 service does...

2 Roosevelt Island Girl Scouts Selected To Be On Food Network Girl Scout Cookie Championship TV Show With Host Alyson Hannigan - Congrats To Victoria Gorain Appearing February 3 And Persya Perez Appearing February 17


We recently learned that two local Roosevelt Island Girl Scouts were featured to represent the Girl Scout movement on millions of Girl Scout Cookie boxes.

But there's more. According to Roosevelt Island Girl Scout Troop 3001 Leader Aiesha Eleusizov:
Two girls from our RI Troop 3001 will be on the Food Network Girl Scout Cookie Championship series in February!!
