Looking for things to do this weekend on Roosevelt Island or in New York City?

Friday night, one of my favorite live performance bands, Great Big Sea - from the tropical island of Newfoundland, Canada - is making a New York City appearance at the Nokia Theater in Times Square. The first time I ever heard of them was at their outdoor concert during the 1999 Summer Festival in Quebec City and I was just blown away by their combination of traditional seafaring folk tunes, Celtic rock songs and the sheer fun and joy of their live performance. I and a bunch of friends have been attending their New York concerts ever since. If you are looking for something to do tonight in New York City, I definitely recommend trying to get tickets. You will have a Great Time!
More Great Big Sea.

If you are looking for something to do with the kids on Saturday, the Roosevelt Island Marlins are holding a "Learn to Swim" Program at the Westview Pool or head on over to the opening weekend for the Brooklyn Children's Museum.
Help us unveil all the new exhibitions, programs, and amenities under our groovy, Rafael Viñoly-designed roof. Make a lion costume leap in a Chinese New Year parade, create your own museum exhibit, search for clues to animal life, ring up groceries in an international market, splash in the Totally Tots play pond, and so much more! Your family will never forget this very special weekend!
Adventures on a Shoestring is conducting a walking tour of Roosevelt Island on Saturday at 2 PM. meeting on the northwest corner of Second Avenue and 59th street. For more information call 212*265*2663

On Sunday, check out the Museum of Modern Art's Home Delivery: Fabricating the Modern Dwelling or the Van Gogh And The Colors Of The Night exhibitions.

Additional suggestions on what to do in New York City this weekend can be found at the NY Times Urban Eye, NY Post Weekend Calendar and Newyorkology.

UPDATE - 5;20 PM - There is also the Roosevelt Island based Orphans International Anime & Manga Fundraiser for Haitian Hurricane Relief on Saturday Night.
