Low Flying Helicopter Swooping Over Roosevelt Island and East River Yesterday Evening Looking For Reported Queensboro Bridge Jumper

Image From Jonathan Kalkin

Were you wondering early yesterday evening around 5:30 PM , why a helicopter was swooping extremely low over Roosevelt Island, barely making it over the Riverwalk Building and hovering over the East River followed by NYPD Harbor Boats patrolling the area?

It turns out that there were reports of a person jumping from the Queensboro Bridge into the East River at that time. From the 9/13 - /9/14 Roosevelt Island Public Safety Incident Report:
Investigation- Report of a person who may have jumped off of the 59th Street Bridge. PSD, NYPD, FDNY and Coast guard responded. A search was conducted with negative results.

And what was NYPD looking for on Sunday morning at 5:45 - 6:30 am when we were shaken out of our beds by lower flying aircraft ? Another jumper ? Something more serious ? Not sure public safety can answer that one.

Anonymous beat me to it, but yes, I head both the early morning and evening helicopters flying by very close to 40 RR.

Fortunately I was already awake, or the morning one would have been really annoying.

I don't believe it was because of a jumper! I woke up because of helicopter noice and looked out of the window. I saw police boats, but some of them were far from the bridge. I saw several fire trucks on the Manhattan side, approximately 70th street. I saw several police cars parked next to Manhattan Park. All of this because of some jumper???

That morning there was a ton of NYPD and FDNY and ambulances across the river around the area where the pedestrian bridge to John Jay Park is. No idea what happened that morning, though, but that helicopter woke all of us as well.
