20k for historical society? Are you kidding me??????????

Where can we see organization's expenses and budgets?

Historical Society should get nothing. Give the money to the organizations that do for the kids. Everybody complains about that. We need to invest in the kids. Forget about giving free money away to Judy. Give it to the kids, the Seniors & the disabled.

The Historical Society has gotten a head start and should be able to stand on its own now. If it cannot
RIOC should try to include an ice cream parlor/coffee bar with the other vacancies

Clearly all of the above comments were left by the same person.

The RIHS has done RI a tremendous service with the rescue of the kiosk as well as restoration of Blackwell House! The historic structures of RI are one of RI's most beautiful and unique assets. I am all for the RIHS receiving full funding to continue its wonderful work!

Clearly, poster above is Judy Birdy. She gets other monies from the City. Leave the Public Purpose Funds for the Kids & Senior Citizens.

Guess what - the "poster above" is not Judy Berdy! Instead the poster above is just another resident. Let's consider what are the insteresting and unique aspects of RI: Many of them are the historic structures, the lighthouse, both churches, and the amazing Renwick ruins. We are *extremely* lucky to have so many interesting historic structures on a compact strip of land. I think Judith does a tremendous job in advocating for these amazing structures. It's great the kiosk was rescued as well as the work that's been put into the other structures. I would definitely vote for the monies to be allocated to the RIHS!

Just a reminder that the RIHS Visitor Center Kiosk welcomed 13,000 visitors and residents to the island in 2009, the last year it was open prior to the restoration. Many of these are island kids and seniors.

Aside from funding from the City Council and some PPF funds, we cost RIOC nothing. We pay our own
Con Ed bills, something many islanders do not have to do.

We are serving the community, visitors, students, researchers at no cost to them.

How did you discover the island?

Many newcomers visit the kiosk, get a warm neighborly welcome and then decide to relocate to the island.

We advise on dining, shopping, history and sights to see.

I suggest the naysayers come into the kiosk, meet the staff and avail themselves of some island history.

It may be an enlightening and educational experience.

We will be the Preservation Award recipients at the Friends of the Upper East Side Historic Districts Annual event in March. We are proud of our organization and the
beautiful restoration of the kiosk.

Please explain why no one is aghast that Life Frames is asking for $34,000 -- more money than any other group.

Life Frames is operated by a non-resident. She was told NOT to plant trees near PS/IS 217. What did she do? She PLANTED TREES next to the school. Now they were taken out by the Dept. of Education. How much money and RIOC employee time was used in that effort?

Those trees behind PS 217 were not part of a fundraiser for the school? Didn't know that. It seems, though, that the trees were removed because the DOE is doing some major renovations in that area.

I am very aghast that Life Frames is asking for $34,000!

What's even more mind blowing is that I am an island resident now for over 11 years and have no idea what Life Frames is and they are asking for more money than the public school on the island! I certainly hope they do something to help the lives of people in a way that is worth requesting $30,000!!

Oh, wait a minute....it's over $34,000!!! Anyone know what this would be for?!

I just checked Life Frame's website and I must say I am intrigued. I am very sure they are not getting any of the requested funds but I like what they are trying to do here on Roosevelt Island.

Ms Shreck of Life Frames/Living Library has requested vast amounts of PPF in the past. One year I remember is was $250,000! She may be well intentioned, but her projects seem to fizzle and return
very little to the children of the island.

Due to the fiasco with the trees at the school being planted in the future construction site and she being warned not to plant there we
have been advised that the PTA will no longer work with her.

I suggest she return to San Francisco and do her good deeds in the City by the Bay.
