Roosevelt Island Southtown Dog Park Getting New Temporary Home Due To Upcoming Construction Of Riverwalk Building 8

As previously reported, the Roosevelt Island Southtown Dog run will soon be removed

for the upcoming construction of Riverwalk Building 8.

During the Roosevelt Island Operating Corp (RIOC) November 30 Operations Advisory Committee meeting (audio web cast of meeting here), RIOC engineering consultant Mike Russo reported that a temporary location for the Southtown Dog run will be built in the triangle just north of 480 Main Street next to the Blackwell Park playground.

The temporary Dog Park will have separate areas for large and small dogs and be paid for by Riverwalk Building 8 developer Hudson Related.

It is anticipated that the temporary Dog Park will be in the location for approximately 3 years and a permanent Dog Park will be built between the new Buildings 8 and 9.

I asked RIOC Vice President of Operations Shelton Haynes:
Am following up on the dog park discussion during Operations Committee meeting.

When do you anticipate moving the dog park to its new location.

Also, what will happen to the NYPD Canine dog run?
Have not received answer yet.
