Flash-Flash-Flash- Duane Reade is Now Open
The long awaited Roosevelt Island Duane Reade store at 425 Main Street is now open.
As a service to retail deprived, overly excited Roosevelt Islanders, they will have free blood pressure testing on Saturday between 11AM-2PM
A positive first impression was made for me by their stocking of Jewish New Year cards, unlike the Gristedes which does not, demonstrating that at least in this instance they are aware that in the city of New York there are people who wish to send Rosh Hashanah greetings to others.

I went in there yesterday and bought my weekly supply of condoms(25). And for those of you keeping score, I am forced to buy the extra large types.
Yea - I would imagine you woud need the large to cover that swelled head of yours - check their supply of paperbags if you run low.
Only RIers are able to be excited about the opening of a Duane Reade! :) I am ecstatic! Gristedes needs more competition!

Attention ladies of RI. I just picked my perscription of the little purple love pills. I have five and they wont last long. I am a sex machine once I get my Vitamen V in me.
Isn't it great to be excited about something as common as Duane Reade. This is what I absolutely love about living on Roosevelt Island! The return to appreciating the little things and not taking them for granted.
I went to the Roosevelt Island Duane Reade for the first time this evening. The place is amazing to say the least. It is definitely the best Duane Reade that I've been in so far. The clerks were very friendly. The place is well staffed which isn't very common. The Chase ATM is coming October 1st. What a great addition to RI. I hope that this forces Gristedes to step up its game.
it's good and bad...the mom's & pop's stores that give RI its charm are quickly disapearing to be replaced by brand name stores. I hope there is a way to keep both.
I would like to open the following for discussion:
Duane Reade on several occasions did not have the most common of medications on hand but always offered to get it in ... soon. And what is up with the -please interpret for yourself- the not so nice pharmacist. I now others have had problems getting Rx filled and have encountered a not so pleasant situation w/pharmacist.
... The 3 big monopolies (garage, grishities and duane reade) are really taking the island for a ride ... we can and should do a lot better than this.
I never really had any problems with the DR pharmacy. Special orders are usually in within a day or two and I always got a call from them that the order was in. I also never had problems with the staff there but then I am usually a very pleasant person to deal with in the first place.
That said, for pharmaceutical products you can always go to Gristedes and get your Rxs filled there.
