2 Roosevelt Island Public Safety Offices Hurt Falling Through Floor In Pursuit of Renwick Ruins Trespassers

Image from Weblicist of Manhattan

RIOC President Steve Shane writes in his 3/21/09 Main Street WIRE column in regard to the:
...Renwick Ruin: Work continues with a completion date projected for early spring. Final steel installation to take place early in April.
But in the meantime some people cannot resist the urge to trespass (explore?) inside the Renwick Ruins which can result in injury to themselves or others.

According to the 3/20 Roosevelt Island 24 Hour Incident Report:
Aided- Two males injured, fell threw floor or Ruins, transported to hospital.
Trespass- Four male subjects arrested for trespass in the Ruins. Two officers injured while apprehending subjects.
Roosevelt Island Public Safety Director Keith Guerra provides additional information:
The two people who fell through the floor at the Ruins and were hurt were Public Safety Officers who were pursuing the fleeing subjects, who do not reside on Roosevelt Island.
Here's a brief look inside the Renwick Ruins from 2006.

Does it really matter? The fact is that Officers who are protecting us are getting hurt over non-residents who can't resist the opportunity to explore a dangerous area that's supossed to be off-limits.

The libs on this island probably don't think it should be off limits. They're for big government but small police, go figure.

As for the officers, Guerra usually gives names so maybe they're being kept quiet on purpose. I believe one of them is back to work already. The other is still out of work with a broken leg or arm or something.

I'm glad to see the officers are doing their jobs. Good thing they only had minor injuries. The ruins are a dangerous place from what I heard. Who knows when it can go POOT! and fall down.

i think public safety is doing a horrible job and that they should stop arresting children and pick on people of their age, i mean there are many other people that deserve to get arrested, not children. Everytime you arrest them your degrading them one by one.

Honestly i mean when will public safety begin to mature, they continue to make a big deal out of nothing. The only reason why things on the island are getting hot is because everytime these so-called "OFFICERS" make an arrest, at the the same time they are tempting others perform more dangerous acts. Guerra, you need to tell these officers to calm down.

Public Safety should focus directly at the same (now adults) individuals from 2-4 River Road, whom are always the obvious ones that hasn't matured! they are devious and dangerous and are up to their same old tricks... if you get my drift...Public safety should be on their guard, especially now that the weather is getting warmer, keep a watchful eyes on those!
