Image Of Riverwalk Bar & Grill

Roosevelt Island's Riverwalk Bar & Grill will be having it's first Anniversary Party this coming Sunday, August 15 starting at 1 PM on the Riverwalk Commons:
Sunday August 15th is our 1 year Anniversary party on the island. We will have giveaways and games for both adults and children in the commons. Please join us in our celebration. Thank you for your support. Kids need a wrist band to participate. Wrist bands will be given out with with a child's meal from now until August 14th...
One of the highlights of the festivities will certainly be Roosevelt Island's version of Coney Island's Shoot The Freak attraction. What might that be you ask?

Well, Riverwalk Bar & Grill owners Jon, Sal & Alphonse will be sitting on top of a Dunk Tank waiting for the inevitable. Your job, should you choose to accept it, is to throw a ball at the Dunk Tank target, hit the target and then watch and laugh as they plunge into a tank of ice cold water (probably won't be that cold). It's all in good fun and the proceeds from the Drunk (I mean Dunk) Tank will go to the Roosevelt Island Disabled Association (RIDA).

The honor of being dunked is also available to anyone else who wishes to do so.

Jim Bates, President of RIDA adds:
Friends of RIDA,
On Sunday August 15th The Riverwalk Bar & Grill is having a 1 ST Anniversary Party.

Rides for kids Food & Drinks,Giveaways and best of all, A Charity Dunk Tank with all money raised going to the Roosevelt Island Disabled Association.

I am asking my friends if you would volunteer to be dunked, either way come and invite your family and friends to this fun day and see if you can dunk someone.

See you at the Riverwalk Commons
Don't know if Jon, Sal or Alphonse will be singing on the Dunk Tank like this clown at 2009 San Gennaro Festival but they will be getting wet.

There was an event in The Riverwalk Common today hosted by Riverwalk Bar and Grill. Flyers were posted around the island for what appeared to be a community event with rides and games for children of Roosevelt Island. However, at the bottom of the flyer, the fine print stated that only those with arm bands could participate. Furthermore, the only way to acquire an armband was to have bought a children's meal at Riverwalk Bar and Grill in the last few weeks, with window to obtain one ending yesterday.

I called the establishment to inquire why the last date to purchase a children’s meal and receive the arm band was yesterday. Why could not a child receive an arm band today with the purchase of a kid’s meal. One of the owners, Sal Alphonse confirmed by phone that the promotional offer ended yesterday, and that children without armbands could not participate. When pressed about the exclusion problem due to many children showing up without an arm band, He stated that it was not a community event, but rather a thank you for his loyal customers.

I’m sure that many children, whose parent didn't read the fine print, did end up disappointed and not understanding why they were excluded from riding the rides with the other children. Since this event took up quite an extensive portion of a common area, I felt that whoever on Roosevelt Island that approved this event may have been misled into thinking that it was a community event. A friend, who attended the event, gave away his wrist band to a child that was crying because she could not ride any rides.

I was able to buy a blue band for my children on the same day and they enjoyed the event.

I thought it was a very nice event and the other island businesses should follow the lead set by the owners of the Riverwalk Bar & Grill. Thank you Alphonse, Jon & Sal. The kids had a blast!

I wanted to the owners of the Riverwalk Bar and Grill.
My kids had a blast, 4 hours of non-stop fun. As a matter of fact when we left my children thanked me for the "best day ever!!"

I thought it was a very kind and generous gesture to your customers and this community. As a matter of fact i can't tell you how many residents i ran into who where really impressed with your generosity. The renting of the common area from RIOC, paying for extra PSD, the extra staff, All the rides, the free food and refreshments, the dj, the giveaways and not the least you donating your time and effort to a local charity.
KUDOS

As for getting a wristband, i had no problem buying a kids meal as advertised in the wire and on the posters and even here on this blog. I also saw people buy bands the day of the event.

Congratulations on your first year, and thanks for being a part of the community.

I also would like to thank Riverwalk Bar and Grill for such a nice afternoon for my son and god son. My son was running and smiling in his dreams all night! They didn't have to give back to the community like they did, it was a wonderful gesture. It was great because though my son got a bracelet with his kids meal a week ago, my god son was able to purchase a bracelet and enjoy hours of fun. Hopefully all the businesses on the island will be so generous!
