Leslie Torres First Day As Roosevelt Island Operating Corp President/CEO - She's Welcomed By NY Times Take On Her Appointment
The Roosevelt Island Operating Corp (RIOC) new President/CEO Leslie Torres started her first day on the job today. She was welcomed to her new position by a story in today's NY Times City Room Blog. Here's the NY Times take on the recent RIOC President/CEO change.
... Leslie Torres, a deputy state housing commissioner, has been appointed president of the island’s operating corporation, replacing Stephen H. Shane, whom the board abruptly ousted in June....The NY Times City Room Blog previously published a story about former RIOC President Steve Shane's departure from the RIOC Board which included a statement from Mr. Shane as to why he believed he was removed as RIOC President.
... Mr. Shane, who was appointed in 2007 by Gov. Eliot Spitzer, was kicked off the board in a back-room deal that took many, including him, by surprise....
... And while the post had long been viewed as a repository of Albany cronyism, Mr. Shane was not a crony or even a career civil servant. His successor, Ms. Torres, does have a long history in government service...
UPDATE 5 PM - Ms. Torres comments on her first day as RIOC President:
What a great first day to join the RIOC team. Everything on Roosevelt Island looks so verdant. I look forward to working with the Board, staff and residents to continue to maintain and improve the Island.

does the new RIOC president mean Roosevelt Island looks "Verdant" in a way that the island is very green (ie: trees and plants everywhere and great lawns) or "Verdant" in the way that Roosevelt Island looks inexperienced and unsophisticated?
Does Ms. Torres live on Roosevelt Island? She should.
first anonymous poster - you answered your own question. if you live here you know RI is a train wreck, and has trees and plants everywhere as well.
