Help Sunrise Day Camp Provide Summer Day Camp For Kids With Cancer - Sunrise On The Rocks Fundraising Benefit Saturday, December 4

Roosevelt Island Residents Association (RIRA) Common Council member Ava Dawson reports on a Winter Wonderland  fundraising benefit she is involved with for Sunrise Day Camp - an organization that provides a free day camp experience for children with cancer and their families. The benefit, Sunrise.... On The Rocks, will take place Saturday, December 4 in the Vice Room at the 13th Step.

Here's some more information regarding Sunrise ... On The Rocks
Children's Cancer Benefit

Ms. Dawson adds:
Last summer, I worked as a nurse at Sunrise Day Camp. Sunrise Day Camp is the only dedicated day camp in the nation for children with cancer and their siblings. It is a camp designed to meet the emotional, social, recreational and physical needs of these children while allowing them to enjoy the comforts and safety of their own homes at night. Best of all, Sunrise Day Camp is offered free of charge to all children being treated for cancer on a non-sectarian basis.

While the camp is on long island, they provide bus service from many of the city hospitals, including Memorial Sloan Kettering.  The camp is an amazing place, and without events like this, we wouldn't be able to help as many kids as we do!

When it's raining and dreary like today, it may be hard for us to imagine spending time at a summer day camp but I bet it's not hard for these kids to do so.
