Roosevelt Island Christmas Trees On Sale At Motorgate Plaza
Are you looking to buy a Roosevelt Island Christmas Tree like Jane, the reader of this 2009 post, who asks when the local Boy Scout troop will start their annual Christmas Tree sale at Motorgate Plaza next to Gristedes?
Is this happening again this year? Anyone know when it starts. Was expecting to see them set up this morning at the farmers market - maybe the Christmas tree lighting just got me too excited too early! ;)Jane may have looked a bit too early this morning, because I saw the Boy Scouts selling Christmas Trees at Motorgate Plaza this afternoon.
The Roosevelt Island Boy Scout Christmas Trees can be bough Fridays from 6 - 8PM, Saturdays 10 AM - 6 PM, Sundays 1 - 6 PM and Monday December 20 from 6-8 PM.
Jane is right about the Tree Lighting Ceremony - it was terrific.

In the past the trees the boy scouts have been selling are a lot more expensive than the ones you can get on the UES. With the tram running again it makes a lot of sense to get your tree from across the river if you want to save some money.
Also, this is probably good to know if you disagree with certain views the boy scout organization has and don't want to support them.
Why wouldn't you want to promote scouting? I'd much rather have kids doing productive activities than tagging the walls on the island.
Also, the Boy Scout trees were less expensive than they had been in the last 2 years.
Well, it is well known that the Boy Scouts of America do not allow openly gay people to join them. It sure is their right to do so (see the Supreme Court decision from 2000) but it is not something I want to support financially. That would be valid reason not wanting to support them, right?
The main reason why *I* do not want to support the Boy Scout organization is their stance on gay youth. While the US Supreme Court decided that it is entirely legal for them to ban gays who openly admit to their sexuality it just doesn't vibe with me and I personally think this kind of intolerance is unacceptable.
Luckily, I am not the only one who thinks so.
