Chilly Spring Training Today As Roosevelt Island Boys Of Summer Prepare For Upcoming Baseball Season - Register Now For 35th RIYP Baseball Little League Season

Image Of Baseball On A Frigid Firefighters Field From Janet Falk

I saw and heard a sure sign of spring coming even on a chilly late afternoon earlier today. - the sight and sound of a baseball hitting a bat at Firefighters Field as a group of kids were were getting ready for upcoming season.

Don't forget that baseball registration is currently underway for the Roosevelt Island Youth Program (RIYP) Little League. Registration information is here.

I'm looking forward to baseball.

I think the cat thing is a niche.. actually sounds like funding the hobby of a few. Shouldnt that be volunteer work? Taxpayer money just because it's been around forever? what about cat wrangling costs 3k? I think your right about the concerts and the day care, but the cat thing.. put a donation pot at the grocery store labeled "help save our strays" - id throw in a few bucks. Youd probably end up with more than 3 k in fact

Good point. All in all, the money is going to the wrong places.

Unfortunate
In the past, the Day Nursery never got public funds - look at their pricing - this is for upper income families. A few partial scholarships to the poor folk doesn't seem to be much help.

The Historical Society - why? so Tram visitors can find out where to eat and rent apartments? How does this help current Island residents that should be the beneficiaries of these funds?

Cats? please

RIVAA - why?

Every dollar wasted on these plans is better spent directly helping our kids (PTA programs, Island Kids and the dance alliance), our Seniors (RISA) and our disabled (RIDA)

Riva is the biggest leach. Shut it down

As a cat, I must object to that.

Agreed as well.

I wonder how many Island Cats members are on the Common Council.

the fact that people drive over to our island and abandon and just dump out their unwanted pets is sad, against the law and just plain cruel to do to a pet. We as a community must care about this issue and try to take care of the situation as much as possible. It does effect our community and the volunteers that take the time to try to help and rescue and relocate these cats to good homes are tireless and wonderful souls. The cats have to be caught and tested for disease and treated by a vet. Food has to be bought, medicines have to be bought for the ones that are sick * which is why some dump their pets so they do not have to take care of them * all these things take money and the island should help with this as much as possible. All of you that think the very small amount of 3 thousand is a waste just shows that you are so out of touch with what is going on in your own front and back yard. All the island wildlife needs help, you should stop complaining about things and get proactive in your community to help key issues that effect us all.
