Open Building Lobby Doors A Continuing Security Problem For Roosevelt Island's Roosevelt Landings Buildings - Will Issue Be Addressed By Landlord Urban American?
Image of Open Roosevelt Landings Door
Updating post from Monday regarding security and safety problems at Roosevelt Landings, the building Residents Association President Joyce Mincheff shares this email sent to building landlord Urban American on Tuesday:
More examples of open Roosevelt Landings doors.
Again last evening, although we'd discussed this problem in our meeting last Thursday, I found the lobby's doors at 546 Main Street, (the Senior's building)- both front and rear, were open at approximately 8:45 PM. The front door continues not to close automatically, and the back door lock is broken and will not adequately secure the door. I had placed signs on these doors so that tenants would know to secure the doors behind them, and those signs were removed. No security was assigned to guard the doors. I reported the problem to the Public Safety Dept.
Please expedite the repair of these doors and post someone to watch them until they can be secured....

I work a late night shift. MOST night's when I come home, the front door of building 546 is open (exactly as shown in picture 2, above). Some nights, when the front door is shut all the way, there are people WAITING for someone to open the front door! Last night, there was someone waiting around outside, and two other people down the street a bit next to the cross walk. Since I'm all alone and no one else around, I always watch my back. As soon as I entered the building, the man in the wheelchair waiting outside rushed over, held open the door and then called for his buddies whom were the ones waiting around the corner. All of this while I was waiting for the elevator to arrive. Very suspicious activity....ghetto ass looking people too. Full on ghetto dew rags and get-up. I reported this behavior, but it has always gone unanswered.
Roosevelt Landings is turning into the projects. Ghetto....as....hell. Roosevelt Island will soon be just an island paradise for drug dealers, gang members, and all around bad people. I feel so bad for the folks trying to keep Roosevelt Island a family oriented place, because they are working up a streem of constant push back from suits that do not care. The fact of the matter is, the management and the corrupted PSD employees allow this filth to happen and continue. The PSD is in bed with these filthy people. PSD is worthless.
Take matters into your own hands, and protect yourself and your loved ones. Protect others that care for their community.
Sadly, my wife and I will be moving off of the Island, mainly due to rising prices, but ultimately because we've noticed how ghetto it has got on the island since living here for just TWO years.
Good luck to the residents who are trying to clean and fix these problems, my heart will remain here on the island with you all.
Cheers.
