Someone pulled the E brake at 57th. We finally moved to 63rd, where most passengers transferred. It wasn't fun. The disruption lasted for 40+ minutes.

That's why you should take the tram and grab a bike from the 58th St/2nd Ave or 58th St/3rd Ave dock station. The bike will bring you everywhere where the F train would bring you in Manhattan (and some Brooklyn).
Any concern about riding bike in Second Avenue traffic, particularly during rush hour?

Not really. It's sometimes slow-going but as long as you don't try to "beat" car traffic, try to stay in the bike lane as much as possible, and use common sense you are fine.
