I remain out of town over the Memorial Day holiday and have witnessed the "Rolling Thunder" in celebration and recognition of the many who have lost their lives in defense of our country. As to the Island, the bit of news received regarding PPF seems encouraging and, if we can really get it going, time will be of the essence. Hope there will be something more definitive upon my return. Congratulations Roosevelt Island with regards to the Town Hall and specifically to all of you who worked hard in support of ensuring a wonderful exchange with the elected officials.

It seems rioc has made a deal with a tow truck company to be the only ones allowed on the island so my aaa membership is useless whenever i need a tow on the island

AAA or other tows may not come into Motorgate because they don't fit. I've had AA tows pick up my car @ Motorgate - if they fit. It's not a AAA thing - it depends on the height of the tow truck.

I think it's safe to say that none of us want Republicans taking over if the Republicans act on their stated goals of destroying the social safety net, including Social Security and Medicare. None of us = the overwhelming majority of Americans. Even Bush II expanded the social safety net with the pharmacy benefit program - knowing he had to do something that would please the people - be popular - to gain re-election, despite being a Republican. It is highly unpopular to touch these programs, and most politicians know this. Unfortunately, the current crop of Republicans is backward and retrograde when it comes to the social safety net, as well as issues such as the minimum wage, and affordable housing. People are not going to vote against their interests - as long as Republicans continue on the attack against the social safety net, they will lose.

I understood the stated goals to be (from http://budget.house.gov/uploadedfiles/fy16budget.pdf#page=5 ): “Let us make sure
those promises government made, it keeps – whether it is to seniors on Medicare or veterans who
have served this nation with honor and distinction. Let us make sure that those who need assistance get more than an invitation into a broken system.”

The Republicans are the party of the fat cats - the 1%. They have tried to repeal Obamacare scores of times. They are racists in refusing to cooperate with Obama on any initiative even if ti's an initiative they originally proposed. They rely on backward thinking invoking greed and prejudice to win elections, and once they get in, they do their utmost to reduce benefits, despoil the environment, enable gentrification - the list of unpopular laws is endless. Only the fat cats benefit from Republican rule. They should be rejected at the polls every time- the fact that they're not is a testament to the power they hold in controlling much of the media, and buying so many politicians, and even benches if need be. The SC decision on the 200 Presidential election is a good example of the power of the Republican party -- the appointees of the Republican Presidents coming through to ensure the vote count was stopped, so that Bush II - whose father appointed the
"winners" on the SC that voted to stop the vote count - was elected.
