Why can RIOC not block large trucks and only allow smaller trucks ?
ORRRR, why cant they park on W. Main St (the newly created one way st.) in the "free" parking spaces! That way their engines/generators won't be running right under my window (or anyone else) all night (like last night). Complainer? Why yes sir! I AM inconvenienced and for what?
For living in NYC. That's why, sir. If you want the big city you have to make major compromises in regards to your convenience.
I think the "complainer" is correct in this instance. Residents of congested yet popular neighborhoods in NYC such as Tribeca or the West Village are always notified well in advance of shoots. Was there any advance notice here? Also, it is much more sensible to use West Main as the "staging" area for the trucks - why didn't RIOC advise Riverwalk residents of the shoot and have the crew park the trucks on W. Main? All these production details are supposed to be meticulously worked out in advance and are always shared with the City film office, who in turn were supposed to have relayed them to RIOC. RIOC undoubtedly knew but again chose to treat the RI residents as so much "chopped liver"..
How are residents of Tribeca or the West Village informed? Sure, there are signs plastered all over the streets that parking will be prohibited, but that's it. The city does not send out notices to all neighbors. You guys are expecting way too much. What is the advanced notification supposed to do anyway? You'll have time to move out for a few days? You can go out and buy ear plugs or shades for your windows? What exactly are the film guys doing that disturbs anybody so much?
Signs plastered around - sure. However, the production company will sometimes also indemnify property owners for the trouble - or perhaps collectively so.
At least the CB - which is supposed to represent the interests of the residents - is notified and can then meet with the production unit head; the local precinct could have also called a community meeting to explain that film trucks will be shooting etc.
A glaring error on the part of RIOC in this instance is to have the trucks parked on Blackwell Plaza. That may be a first. The weight of these heavy trucks is going to do wonders for the surface of the plaza.
As was previously noted by Anonymous, if the trucks were parked on W. Main, Riverwalk residents would have been spared the truck noise overnight. Why didn't RIOC request this and post signs accordingly that W. Main parking spaces would be unavailable for the duration of the shoot.
I suggest Riverwalk residents complain to the CB, RIRA, RIOC, Related - whoever they feel may be most effective in ensuring they are notified of future shoot plans - about this complete disregard on the part of RIOC of Riverwalk residents.
Residents can also personally complain to RIOC at the next RIOC Board meeting, which happens to be tomorrow Wednesday April 6 starting at 5:30 PM, at Manhattan Park Community Center!
To paraphrase Rick's blog, residents must sign up at least a day before the meeting in order to be recognized to speak during the public comment period. So, if you have any questions or statements regarding anything concerning Roosevelt Island such as how the film shoot was handled make sure to sign up in advance (Rick supplies the sign-up hyperlink in his article).
You guys live in a dreamworld. It's hilarious to listen to so much entitlement you guys think you have. Enough said.

you know, there is only once place to park a car if you have one on this island. Why can't there be another parking deck on the south end? People are complaining because they pay rent just like the rest of the island but need somewhere to park the car, it seems the sense of intitlment come from the " old timers " on this island thinking they own the island and can talk to their neighbors like they do...it is absurd that " north towners" talk down to " south towners " what is heaven's name is that all about?
Everything north of Blackwell is Phase I Northtown according to the GDP, everything south of Blackwell is Phase II Southtown - no matter what names the various developers may assign to buildings/developments, such as Manhattan Park, the Octagon, Rivercross, Riverwalk etc. So Northtown and Southtown are the "original" names of each development area - north & south.
I happen to agree that Southtown should have its own parking structure,just like Northtown does. I don't understand why parking wasn't included when Southtown was built. If Octagon has on-site parking and it isn't as far away from Motorgate as Southtown is, why wasn't parking built at Southtown?
Maybe a parking structure could be included in the Stanford development plans that could be shared by Southtown residents - it would be closer than Motorgate to Southtown.
