HALLOWEEN SAFETY TIPSHave fun at tomorrow's Roosevelt Island Halloween Parade Extravaganza.
- Trick-or-treat in your neighborhood.
- Stay in well-lighted areas.
- Have kids use glow sticks or flashlights to help them see and be seen by drivers.
- Children under the age of 12 should not be alone at night without adult supervision.
- Remind them to stick to familiar areas that are well lit and trick-or-treat in groups
- Never go out alone. Make sure older kids go out with friends.
- When selecting a costume make sure it is the right size to prevent trips and falls.
- Go only to apartments you know.
- Set a time limit for children to trick-or-treat.
- Remind kids not to enter a strange house or car.
- Walk Safely: Cross the street at crosswalks, look left, right and left again when crossing and keep looking as you cross.
- Put electronic devices down and keep heads up and walk, do not run, across the street.
- Teach children to make eye contact with drivers before crossing in front of them.
- Always walk on sidewalks.
- Watch for cars that are turning or backing up. Never dart out into the street or cross between parked cars.
- Wear white or reflective clothing. Decorate costumes and bags with reflective tape or stickers; if possible choose light colors
- Inspect the candy when you get home.
