Mold From Leaking Water Closes Roosevelt Island Cultural Center For Repairs & Maintenance Says RIOC From January 2- February 5, 2018

According to this advisory today from the Roosevelt Island Operating Corp (RICO):

Please be advised that The Cultural Center will be closed for planned maintenance & repairs from January 2nd – February 5th 2018. During this time no access shall be granted to the space. We thank you in advance for you cooperation.

In response my November 10 inquiry following the November 9 RIOC Real Estate Advisory Committee (REDAC) meeting which discussed the Cultural Center mold issue, RIOC Vice President Of Operations Shelton Haynes replied:
As mentioned in the REDAC meeting last week, RIOC had the Cultural Center tested for mold that developed because of recurring leaks over a period of time. The test results revealed a low-grade, non-harmful, mold located in multiple rooms of the facility. RIOC has taken measures to remediate the mold out of an abundance of caution to our occupants and patrons of the Cultural Center. A portion was remediated in late October and the second phase will occur when the building is unoccupied in January.
Here is the RIOC REDAC meeting discussion with RIOC Engineering Consultant Mike Russo, Mr. Haynes and Roosevelt Island Jewish Congregation (RIJC) President Nina Lubin.

The RIJC is one of the occupants of the Cultural Center, together with the Main Street Theatre & Dance Alliance among others, who will not be able to use the space during the mold remediation.

The Cultural Center had been closed for almost 3 years following  the 2012Hurricane Sandy flooding and has undergone extensive renovation during that time.

and tells us what's on his mind:
Please view my video and hear out my story... for third year now I have had a mold problem in my apartment in Westview... this time mold came with full force. Ceiling in my bedroom, living room, bathroom is covered with black fungus. Dr. Resnick connected my continuos cough and clogged throat to mold allergy. During last visit he advised me to move to another apartment. But as we all know, due to privatization or some kind of other interests Westview management has been reluctant to let anyone in number of available apartments in the building. I exercise and taking care of my condition daily. I swim, walk miles every day. I used to play hockey, volleyball. Never had any allergies. Now it is permanent condition. What next? Asthma, cancer.... I love living on the island but some things are very upsetting here.. Some things just do not make sense.. We are one community, one island, why we get so much negligence from people of authority here all the time... Please pardon my emotional writing, it just I feel really bad about it. Please share, comment, advise.
Mr. Malinsky takes us on a tour showing the mold in his apartment.

NYC Department of Health has information on what to do if you have mold in your apartment.

Westview ownership gave notice in May 2012 of its intent to remove Westview from the Mitchell Lama program. Have not heard much of any privatization progress since the May 2012 notice.
