Life goes on in Octagon. With minimum electricity and lights, the residents are a tough and great group.Despite the Halloween fun at the Octagon, a building resident asks Con Ed in this tweet:

this afternoon to occupy the kids in the building. It was great to see the kids and parents decorating the Club Room
and doing fun activities. The party was held before dark, since there are minimal lights at night!
In the lobby tenants were charging their cell phones and devices on one of the few working outlets!!!

Yet another problem with submetering.
Manager of the year? This is a joke, right? The residents are the ones chasing ConEd trucks and bringing back information. The building staff are the ones who deserve a medal.
Mr. Lyon, I believe the tenants' electric bills go to the managing agent, not Con Ed. In terms of Con Ed customers in the WIRE buildings, it would be the four buildings plus the store-front merchants ... with that perspective, I believe Con Ed might be right in pointing to few outages on the Island. The same would apply elsewhere, such as campuses where the college has power, but individual dorm buildings are knocked out. Not sure how one (conveniently) fixes that data collection problem.
Very true. The rate is a good indicator - there is a specific tariff for sub-metered buildings, one for hospitals and churches, one for restaurants, etc. The problem, though, is that the only way to reliably check whether an outage has been reported is to have the account number. Submetered tenants won't have that.
Submetering makes sense, but there are a few kinks in the system that need to be worked out. Being able to interact with the upward provider is one, but the one that bothers me most is the inability for tenants to verify their readings. Submetered buildings should be required to have kWh displays in or accessible to each unit.
