Power just went out at octagon-basement flooding
Someone tweeted that we are completely under water. No, we are not. There is some flooding, but the island is not completely under water...else I wouldn't be sitting at my computer in my apartment on Roosevelt Island, with lights on and responding to that inane tweet!
Water went back down and it seems that most of the promenade around the MP area is dry again. Looks like the worst is over. Did anybody actually really think we could have been in any danger besides maybe the inconvenience of a power outage (thank goodness, we kept our power but buildings across the river seemed to have shut it down - strange sight to see so many black buildings at night)? As soon as I realized that the winds are not too bad and the rain was lacking it was obvious that nobody was in any danger on this island. Flood is just that, it comes and it will go, and leaves behind some mess and inconvenience but no danger. We are way too far upstream to be in any danger of any hurricane induced surge flood, a hurricane of this category, of course (which, btw was downgraded to a tropical storm anyway).
