A Manhattan Park (MP) resident reports receiving this message from building management:
Depending on the impact of the storm over the course of the next few days, major building systems MAY need to be shutdown or will shutdown due to power outages. As a result, we urge you to stay in your apartment and avoid using the elevators. As new information is available, we will, of course, keep you apprised. Thank you for your cooperationadding:
MP just followed this up with a phone call to every unit,Update 4 PM - Correction, the Manhattan Park elevators are currently working. Sorry for the error.announcing that they were shutting down the elevators.

The call just repeated the email. Just went out to check and the elevators are working normally. The reason why they don't want you to use elevators is because in the event of a sudden outage, you WILL be stuck.
Far more concerned about the river level outside MP--next high tide is 10:47pm and the last one was 1 ft. below the walkway.

That is at the Battery--we are north of that and RI will get less, fortunately. Glad I am not living in BPC or FiDi! Still it's going to be lapping over the walkways mid-Island. Was here for the Dec 92 noreaster and we had the water up to the walk here and the Lighthouse Park area was flooded for at least a week. Wonder what it's like at the new park.
True. It's disappointing that there isn't a RI or Hell Gate monitoring station. There's not even a publicly-accessible monitoring system for the tidal energy project. Would be interesting to watch the effect on power generation.

Just got the call and the email. I guess they are really concerned about possible flooding and power.
My understanding, from one of the maintenance guys, is that the elevator motors can be damaged if the power blinks off while they are in motion. They don't want the newly-replaced motors to get messed up. When the lights flickered off earlier, I think they got concerned.
IH elevators will be shut down starting at 10pm tonight until 8am tomorrow morning, per calls from mgt to tenants on their house phones.

Water will be rising again though right now (8:15 am) it's down below rock level between 20 and 30 RR. The East River is still full of water and the moon is still full, so be careful as it approaches high tide.
