A Roosevelt Island Winter Wonderland Today On Cornell Tech Campus Snow Topped Hills - Show Off Your Roosevelt Island Snowman Building Skills To Win Nisi Kitchen Gift Certificates

What a great idea from the folks at Roosevelt Island's Nisi Kitchen - a Snowman building contest and the 3 best snowman builders win a Nisi Gift Certificate.

This could be a winner.

The Roosevelt Island Cornell Tech campus hills are a winter wonderland today after last night's snow.

Good job by the Roosevelt Island Operating Corp (RIOC) and building owners, for the most part, clearing the streets and sidewalks of snow although there were some areas by the Rivercross Lawn, Good Shepherd Plaza and Tennis Bubble that needed more work.

UPDATE 12/18 - We could have some winners here of the Nisi Kitchen Snowman building contest.

Fun In The Roosevelt Island Snow - Sledding, Snowman, Snowbunny & More

Roosevelt Island Snow Bunny Image From Sarah Michener

Roosevelt Island got just the right amount of snow - enough to have fun but not to cause any hardships.

Some of us went sledding at Southtown hill,

others built snowmen

or shopped at the Farmers Market.

I was surprised to see the Farmers Market open. The Farmers Market Manager told me they came to NYC last night and stayed at a hotel in Queens in order to be open today explaining that they did not want to disappoint any of their Roosevelt Island customers by not being here.

It was good to see the streets were cleared of snow for traffic

though some car owners did not obey the Main Street no parking advisory.

Images From A Roosevelt Island Snowstorm - February 10, 2010

Image of Roosevelt Island Tram and Historical Society Kiosk By Judith Berdy

Roosevelt Island was a snowy winter wonderland on Wednesday. A little birdy sent in these pictures of Southtown sledding by the East Channel,

Blackwell House looking like a winter picture postcard,

and Main Street near the Rivercross Lawn.

Ms Berdy also shows us that the streets were not shoveled by themselves but by snowplow trucks

as well as a strong back and shovel.

More pictures from Ms. Berdy of a snowy Roosevelt Island day in February are available here.

Another Roosevelt Island resident, Lorena Fortuna, sent in these images and more of a snowy Roosevelt Island Wednesday.

The Queensboro Bridge,

and sledding in its shadow.

There was a snowman near a playground,

the Red Bus waiting for the Tram

and a snowblower clearing a path.

Ms. Fortuna's February Roosevelt Island Snow Album is here.

Finally, a sample of Roosevelt Island snow people

and on the way home from a fun filled Roosevelt Island snowy day.
