FDR Park Cancels Saturday October 7 LatinXtravaganza Festival Due To Rain Forecast - RIOC Reschedules Fall For Arts Festival From Saturday To Sunday October 8

The LatinXtravaganza Family Festival scheduled for Saturday October 7 at the FDR Four Freedoms Park has been cancelled due to forecast of rain.

According to the FDR Four Freedoms Park:

Saturday's LatinXtravaganza Festival at FDR Four Freedoms State Park is cancelled due to the high probability of rain.

Out of an abundance of caution and safety concerns for you and all the attendees, as well as our vendors and performers, Four Freedoms Park Conservancy has cancelled Saturday’s festival at the park. Thank you for your understanding and we hope to see you in 2024!

Also, the Roosevelt Island Operating Corp (RIOC) has rescheduled the Saturday October 7 Fall For Arts Festival to Sunday October 8. 

According to RIOC:

Dear Roosevelt Island Community:

We have decided to move Fall for Arts one more time from Saturday (10/7) to this Sunday (10/8) given the rainy Saturday forecast.

Fall for Arts will now run from 10AM to 5PM Sunday, October 8th on Meditation Lawn and feature food, activities, and incredible artists at work. If you are one of the artists selected for this year’s event but cannot make it on Sunday 10/8, please reach out to RIVAA Gallery at submissions@rivaagallery.org as soon as possible to let festival organizers know.

Hopefully, this will be the last time we have to move the event due to weather. We look forward to seeing everyone this Sunday!

Please be advised that the outdoor movie scheduled for Saturday, June 27, 2015 at Firefighters' Field has been cancelled due to the forecast of rain. The movie has been rescheduled for Friday, August 28th.

There will be no Singin In The Rain tonight.

I found some relief from the rain at the Roosevelt Island Starbucks before running home and getting soaked. Here's what it looked like from outside Starbucks.



Hopefully, the rain will cool down some of the brutal heat from the last couple of days but it will also keep the Mobile Food Trucks from coming to Roosevelt Island tonight.

Torrential Rain Storm Yesterday Caused Gully Washer On Roosevelt Island's Riverwalk Commons - Did You Get Soaked Too?

Hey, did you get stuck in last night's torrential rain storm or did you miss it?

Roosevelt Island resident Jason Eng shares this picture of the runoff from the rain coming down the slope of the Riverwalk Commons towards the F Train Subway Station and comments:

It's a gully washer!

I was not quite sure what a "Gully Washer" was so I looked it up. According to weather.com, a Gully Washer is:

A heavy rain shower that occurs suddenly, possibly creating a flash flood.

For Roosevelt Island, that's what we got last night - a Gully Washer. I got absolutely soaked as I made a mad dash home from the subway station up the Riverwalk Commons sidewalk through the Gully Washer but I am glad that the storm cooled things down a bit from yesterday's very, very, very hot weather.

Looks like we can't get the weather to cooperate with us so that the Roosevelt Island Outdoor Movie viewing of the Transformers can be shown. RIOC Community Relations Specialist Erica Wilder reports the following:

Unfortunately, due to the unpredictable forecast for this evening, the outdoor movie at Firefighters Field, "Transformers", has been canceled and moved to Sunday, June 28th at 8:45pm.
