Roosevelt Island Street Lights At Blackwell House, Meditation Steps And West Pier Fixed Says RIOC - Good Shepherd Main Street Lights Still Out, Con Ed Is Working On It

Reported last week on the Roosevelt Island Street lights being out behind Blackwell House and the replacement temporary lights

 shining

into some nearby apartments.
Roosevelt Island Operating Corp (RIOC) President Charlene Indelicato updates us on the status of the street lights repair by sharing this report today from the RIOC Engineering Department:
After spending a few more hours with Con Edison this evening, all of the lights around Blackwell House and Park have been restored as well as the promenade from the West Pier to Meditation Steps. In addition Good Shepherd Community Center experienced an outage earlier this evening but has now been restored, as for the light poles around the chapel plaza and crosswalk I believe they have also been re-energized but will look into the panel breakers in the morning
During February 20 RIOC Operations Advisory Committee meeting (full audio web cast here), RIOC Director David Kraut reported that Street Lights were out on Main Street near the Good Shepherd Community Center.

RIOC's Engineering Department updates us on the Good Shepherd/540 Main Street lights as well:
... this morning we checked the breakers in our panel box and we still have no power. ... The 2 Ballard's and 3 or 4 street lights at the 540 crosswalk/ bus stop were not restored, they are fed from a different electrical vault which Con Edison is continuing to locate the problem as well as the lights on the chapel plaza.

Roosevelt Island Street Lights Out By Blackwell House Pathway - RIOC Installs Temporary Lighting But It Shines Into Neighboring Apartment

A Roosevelt Island resident recently asked:

I'm wondering if this is something you may be able to answer?

Are the lights behind the Blackwell House ever going to be fixed? That area is really dark at night and the lights are never turned on for the pathways, new kids playground, or the fountain plaza.
I suggested contacting RI 311 See Click Fix, which was done:
Lights out in multiple areas. Around and in front of Church, next to Blackwell House, behind Rivercross lawn and towards Subway.
RIOC installed temporary lighting behind Blackwell House

But at night the temporary light

shines into at least one neighboring apartment. The Roosevelt Island Twitterverse reports:
which drew this response from a solar power advocate.

Due to continuing Con Edison electrical supply problems after last weekend's heavy rains, streetlights remain out on Main Street from Gristedes North to Coler Hospital and West to The Octagon Apartments, as well as the East Seawall from CapoBianco Field North to Coler Hospital.

Con Edison is scheduled to return to resolve the problem on the evening of Tuesday, March 23rd.

Roosevelt Island Lights Going Out - Con Ed Working On Problem Says RIOC

There seems to be a problem with failing lights on Roosevelt Island. According to the 3/4-3/5 Roosevelt Island Daily Public Safety Report:

Hazardous Condition - PSD observed various lights out on RI. Con ED was on island and was advised. Con ED will make repairs. PSD officer was posted in area.
and the 2/28 -3/1 Public Safety Report:
Hazardous Condition - Numerous lights out at Manhattan Park, West Seawall, and Blackwell House. RIOC notified.
In response RIOC informs us that:
Please be advised Con Edison continues to work on the lighting outages throughout Roosevelt Island. Note this is a Con Edison issue and they are hopeful to restore most, if not all, of the lights by the end of the weekend.

The Public Safety Department will be conducting additional patrols throughout the affected areas until the power is restored.

Thank you for your cooperation.

Sincerely,

Roosevelt Island Operating Corp Advisories Group
