Roosevelt Island Residents Association Presidential Great Debate Between Frank Farance & Mathew Katz - Informative, Civil And No Swatting

Image Of RIRA Presidential Candidates Katz, Farance & Moderator Mincheff

The Great Debate between current President Frank Farance and challenger Mathew Katz for the Presidency of the Roosevelt Island Residents Association (RIRA) took place earlier tonight at the Good Shepherd Community Center and no, RIRA Elections Chairperson Joyce Mincheff did not need to maintain order in her role as moderator by swatting either candidate with her tennis racket.

In fact, the Great Debate was an extremely civil and informative discussion of issues facing the Roosevelt Island community, the role of RIRA as community representative and the relative merits of Mr. Farance

and Mr. Katz for the position of President.

At the end of the debate the candidates shook hands.

Will have more on what happened during the debate soon. The debate was videotaped but I am told that there are no plans to make it available online.

UPDATE 11/1 - More information on the debate as well as video link here.

Farance can try to say he has a good relationship
With our local government but our city council member Lappin And Assembly member Kellner have put their support behind Katz. I think that displays how far Farance has alienated everyone that major politicians go out of their way to reject him.

Where did you get that information from? I haven't seen an endorsement for either candidate from Lappin or Kellner.

I heard both were hoping a 3rd candidate would appear.

The endorsements by Assembly member Kellner and City Council member Lappin for Katz are in his candidate statement and on this blog. Katz said last night that they personally endorsed him. I think that says a lot. Farance says he has the best relationship yet with our representatives, but they very publicly don't back him. Do you really want the face of the island someone even our major politicians would rather not work with?

I wish that there was other people besides these 2 people. They have had there day here and we need to go foward towards progress..they both seem to attack each other over personal issues and really did not have fact correct. For instance, there is a new manager of the Gristedes and over the summer worked hard to replace every item on the shelves there...this store on the island has the same prices as other Gristedes.

I think it says a lot when both of these mean said they protest the Gristides by not going there. How is that showing teamwork from the RIRA board? Instead of working with the store and coming up with options, they instead protest by not shopping there....boy, that is genious guys

There seems to be no real sense of teamwork here on this RIRA board. More like after school bullying and game playing.

So, they told Katz in person but they wouldn't endorse him publicly? Yeah... THAT will be helpful for him.

Telling someone you endorse them "in person" is not the same as a Public Endorsement. Who knows if Katz is telling the truth there. Farance doesn't think so.

It's going to be one or the other, people. A 3rd candidate has not stepped up (even though he/she would probably run away with a victory).

So, I guess we have to vote for the lesser of 2 evils, or not vote at all - and leave it to those that really give a hoot about this nonsense.

Quoted on this blog when Matt announced his candidacy.

Later on Sunday, Mr. Katz forwards this endorsement of his candidacy for RIRA President by NYC Council Member Jessica Lappin:
Yes, Matthew, I am happy to support you. I am not surprised and pleased you are running.

Good luck.

Jessica.

After more than 25 years of living here, I may skip this RIRA election completely.

I am sick of the bickering, attacking, not coming up with good ideas and asking the ENTIRE community what that may like, need and are the most concerned about.

I have lived in WV for over 25 years, everything is a secret, no one any "transparency".

I believe Frank Farance has tried and from what I can remember, Matt Katz did a pretty good job as RIRA President.

I cannot forget about the MTG thing, no one saying anything about where WV is headed on "privatization" and what they would do to help EVERY tenant in the Buildings, in my case, WV.

I know they don't have that much power, but they can lean on Politicians, try to lean on RIOC, now mostly RI residents, although all from Rivercross and Manhattan Park. That has to be changed to, there has to be a Resident RIOC Board member from Each housing complex to truly represent the Island as a whole.

So, when I go to vote on Tues., I may skip rapidly by the RIRA elections table on my way out.

With reference to the statement that Gristede charges the same here as in their store is Manhattan I think the point is that Gristede has a sweetheart deal with RIOC.
Gristede benefits from a very low rent;numerous options to extend its lease;a dense population;and an unusual non-competition guaran-tee that basically covers the island.
I believe the intent was to secure a supermarket that would not charge the same prices here as in
Manhattan.

That mtg things is a cooked up farce. RIRA voted almost unanimously and MTG just reviewed the process. Farance wanted the election early (2 years earlier than the statute allows seats to be to run himself)

Riocs board has representation from more than just MP and rivercross. i believe they have from everywhere but Island house and Westview although one rivercross rep lived previously in westview and was on the task force.

Microsurgery: Penile revascularisation and venous ligation
are microsurgical procedures similar in technical complexity to a heart by-pass
operation although they clearly do not carry anywhere near the same risk to
the life of the patient. Your problem is that you have a circulation problem that
could be critical if you don't do anything about it. It helps in relaxing the blood vessels and instigating an increase in the flow of blood towards the sex organ, leading to a stronger erection.
