I am looking for activities for Moms with Babies (meet-up groups etc.) on RI and in Manhattan not far from the Tram and thought you might know some or know if there is an overview somewhere? I am sure I am not the first island mom looking for this.I replied:
The Roosevelt Island Public Library has an Infant Lapsit on Monday's starting at 10:30 AM that you may be interested in.Any other suggestions?
Babies from birth to 18 months old and their parents/caregivers can enjoy great books, lively songs, and rhymes, and meet other babies in the neighborhood.Hope that helps.

There used to be that RIMoms.com site but it seems it is defunct now. Of course, there is Island Kids that has everything from Mommy and Me to music and gym classes. OP should just walk around in the morning and she'll be able to hook up with a lot of moms walking their babies around. The toddler playground in Southtown is a good place to be as well.
On the Manhattan side there is a plethora of choices. The nearest Y would be the Vanderbilt Branch on 47th Street between 2nd and 3rd Aves (224 E 47th St, 212-912-2500).
Islandkids.org has some great classes and a baby group, I believe... Also Starbucks and the playgrounds, ESP the one behind the Starbucks building, near the fountains and the octagon playground are great places to meet moms with babies of similar ages. Put a posting in your building that you want to meet up...perhaps start in your playroom if you have one...hope that helps!!! Oh and my gym, moonsoup, and gymboree are right off the tram, but more expensive...
