Google Maps Street View Virtual Tour Of Roosevelt Island FDR Four Freedoms Park

According to the FDR Four Freedoms Park:

... we celebrate the third anniversary of the opening of the Park with some exciting news: Four Freedoms Park can now be explored from the comfort of your home on Google Maps Street View!

This exciting news is the culmination of an 8-month process to create a virtual tour of the memorial. The Park applied to be part of Street View in February, and in August, a Google Trekker Operator visited the Park to capture thousands of panoramic images.

Shooting on foot and from the stern of Captain Tony DiLernia's Rocket Charter boat, the Trekker wore a large 50 lbs backpack fitted with a special camera rig consisting of 15 cameras. Incredibly, the cameras are able to capture a frame every two seconds! During his two-day visit to the Park, the Trekker was tasked with photographing the Park as a visitor might experience it, so that every detail, from cobblestone to tree to engraving can be viewed from all angles...

Discuss Roosevelt Island FDR Four Freedoms Park Tomorrow On WNYC's Brian Lehrer Radio Show - Tell Them What You Think Of It

Anybody from Roosevelt Island want to tell WNYC's Brian Lehrer radio show what you think of the FDR Four Freedoms Park? The subject will be discussed tomorrow morning.

You can call in tomorrow 10 AM at 212-433-WNYC (9692) or contact via Facebook

I walked around the so-called park on May 10. Join me.

Art critic Thomas B. Hess was right when he described the Louis Kahn/FDR Memorial design as:
... the sort of political edifice that the Italian fascists loved and Speer perfected for the glory of the Third Reich... The site itself is treated heartlessly. What was a modest, picturesquely rugged shoreline has been disciplined to straight lines and symetrical angles that have no significance beyond the alarming one of man's ability to impose a meaningless geometry on nature. The ultimate irony is that Roosevelt, who fought totalitarians to the death, is commemorated in the harsh style propogated by the dictators.
Here were  some questions asked by me and others during February 27 public meeting with the FDR Conservancy.

Roosevelt Island Louis Kahn Four Freedoms Park Town Hall Meeting and Q & A Tonight 6:30 PM At Good Shepherd Community Center - Extremely Short Notice, No Publicity And Don't Bring Any Refreshments

At 4:02 PM today, a little less than 3 hours before a so-called Town Hall Meeting on the so-called Louis Kahn (FDR) Four Freedoms Park, the Roosevelt Island Operating Corp (RIOC) sends out an advisory informing the public about the meeting.

Here's the reminder from RIOC:

As a reminder, you are invited to attend the Four Freedoms Park Conservancy Town Hall meeting Today, 6:30 PM at the Good Shepherd Community Center. There will be a presentation discussing Four Freedoms Park. Immediately following will be a Q&A session with representatives of the conservancy.

Sincerely,

Roosevelt Island Operating Corp Advisories Group
The advisory is referred to as a "reminder" although I did not receive any notice of this meeting before now. Apparently, there was an advertisement in the Main Street WIRE several weeks ago announcing this meeting but nothing else that I saw.

Do they really expect or want people to come out and discuss this issue? If yes, why such short notice and hardly any publicity?

A warning. Based upon my experience trying to get into the park last December, don't bring any refreshments to the meeting.
Gotta let it out.

UPDATE 11 PM - Here's what happened at the Town Hall Meeting. Conservancy President Sally Minard hosted the meeting with other members of her staff. About15 Roosevelt Island residents attended the meeting.
