RIRA And RI Parents' Network Thank Main Street Sweets Owner Scot Bobo For Contribution To Roosevelt Island Community On Day Ice Cream Shop Closed Business

Coach Scot's Main Street Sweets closed it's business yesterday.

Since the closing announcement earlier this month, residents have expressed sadness that our only ice cream shop is no more, but also appreciation for owner Scot Bobo and his family
for creating a community space that was enjoyed by many.

At last night's Roosevelt Island Residents Association (RIRA) meeting, RIRA Common Council Member Adib Mansour and Roosevelt Island Parents Network Coordinator Eva Bosbach thanked Scot Bobo for his contribution and service to Roosevelt Island.

Mr. Bobo thanked everyone who came in the shop and said:

... All we did was provide the space. Roosevelt Island provided the community. It's a great community.

Keep the community together. Wherever the next space is, we're the community and that's all we need...
Thank you Scot. Nice job. Your efforts were appreciated by many.

Main Street Sweets

is closing at the end of the month - November 30.

The closing of Main Street Sweets is a big loss for Roosevelt Island. Besides having very good ice cream, breakfast sandwiches, pastries, coffee, tea, soups, & more, the owner, Scot Bobo, made the space available

to our community for events, meetings, concerts and a comfortable place to hang out.
Roosevelt Island kids, of all ages, will miss Coach Scot's Main Street Sweets.

Will leave for another time what Main Street Sweets closing says about prospects for Roosevelt Island Main Street retail.

UPDATE 7 PM - According to a Hudson Companies Spokeswoman:
Main Street Sweets will be missed and we're sad to see them go. We want to thank Coach Scot for his service to the Roosevelt Island community and we wish him the best of luck.

Roosevelt Island Girl Scouts Visit Main Street Sweets For Entrepreneurship Lessons From Coach Scot And Earn Cookie CEO Badge

Roosevelt Island Junior Girl Scout Leader Heather Smith reports:

Roosevelt Island Junior Girl Scout Troop 3001 visited Main Street Sweets to learn how to run a small business. In order to earn their Cookie CEO badge, one of the requirements is to interview a small business owner. The girls enthusiastically chose Main Street Sweets and carefully prepared a list of questions for Scot Bobo, the owner of Main Street Sweets. Scot taught the girls about pricing a product, keeping it fresh and most importantly - being polite and pleasant. The girls even got to ring up a few orders themselves and practice service with a smile!

A very special thank you to Coach Scot for being such a positive mentor for our budding entrepreneurs on Roosevelt Island!

Please support our Roosevelt Island Girl Scouts as they run their own cookie businesses by buying cookies for yourself or donating a box to the troops through Operation Cookie. Our RI Scouts are taking cookie orders through through January 18th and will have a booth at the farmer's market in March.
Stop by Main Street Sweets yourself for some ice cream, coffee, breakfast and more.

Roosevelt Island Finally Getting An Ice Cream Store - Coach Scot's Main Street Sweets Grand Opening Tomorrow December 19

What's the latest on Roosevelt Island Main Street retail stores? I asked that question of Hudson Related's David Kramer (the Main Street Master Leaseholder) last Thursday who reported:

The wine store got its liquor license recently. I think the ice cream store and market are going to open shortly. We’re working on a bunch of things, but nothing until they’re finalized.
The ice cream store is indeed about to open - tomorrow. According to Roosevelt Island resident Scot Bobo, owner of Coach Scot's Main Street Sweets:
Grand Opening December 19, 7am!

The place is looking great!
and they will be serving
The Best Ice Creams, Yogurt, Hot Drinks, Breakfast Foods, and Delicious Low-Cal Alternatives

As soon as tomorrow, Roosevelt Island will have its very own ice cream store to enjoy like this young man had during a recent training session

 at Coach Scot's

Main Street Sweets.

Good luck with your new business Scot!!!

Le'ts get the other stores open soon as well!!!! Please.

Roosevelt Island Gristedes Beginning Long Awaited Renovation, Moving Entrance To Main Street, Adding Cafe, New Deli, Produce Section & More - Coach Scot's Main Street Sweets Ice Cream Store Almost Complete Says Hudson Related's David Kramer

I noticed that renovations appear to be starting at the Roosevelt Island Gristedes supermarket this week

so asked Gristedes owner John Catsimatidis:
what is the latest status on the renovation of the Roosevelt Island Gristedes? When will it begin and what changes are being made?

I understand that the entrance will be moved from the side beneath the garage to Main Street near the Post Office entrance. Is that true?
Mr. Catsimatidis replied:
Paperwork all signed and submitted to the building dept for permits. Due to hurricane a little behind
adding:
Entrance moved correct
Cafe added
New deli and produce
New floors
Prepared foods
New decor
Reported last month that a representative from Main Street Master Leaseholder Hudson Related told me that:
... Gristedes will soon be undergoing their promised and long awaited complete store renovation. Included in the renovation will be moving the gloomy and depressing store entrance from beneath the Motorgate Ramp

to the light and brightness of Main Street next to the Post Office.

Interestingly, the suggestion to move the Gristedes entrance came from Roosevelt Island resident Deborah Beck during March 12 Town Hall Meeting with Gristedes owner John Catsimatidis...
I also asked Hudson Related's David Kramer for an update on Main Street retail stores. Mr. Kramer replied:
We have 3-4 pending negotiations. The ice cream store is almost complete, which will be followed by the natural foods market and then the wine store. Trellis is developing their renovation plans.
Future Home To Coach Scot's Main Street Sweets

Check out the web page for the soon to open Coach Scot's Main Street Sweets

mmmmmm, tasty.

Looking forward to Coach Scot's Main Street Sweets opening and the Gristedes renovation.

Also, here's recent interview of Gristedes owner John Catsimatidis from the Stoler Report.

Mr. Catsimatidis talks about Roosevelt Island at the 12 minute 30 second mark. He says the Roosevelt Island Tram "never really worked right".

Not sure what he meant by that.
