One week left to go before the Roosevelt Island Tram Modernization Program begins next Monday morning starting with the Tram's shutdown on March 1 at 2:00 AM. With the Tram not scheduled to resume operations until late August (hopefully), Google Maps has another commuting suggestion besides the F train, Red Bus and other previous discussed means of getting off of Roosevelt Island - walking across the East River.

According to this Tweet from PamsVulcan:
The map on my iPhone has great faith in me - directions to walk on water from Roosevelt Island to Manhattan

Google Maps shows that it will only take two minutes to cross the East River. Lots of luck if you try this.

Ever wonder what it takes to remove the Tram Cabins from their cable? Well, this is what it looked like when the Jackson Hole Wyoming Tram Cable cars were taken down while that system was updated.
