Roosevelt Island School Crossing Guard Job Opportunity
RIOC Public Safety Director Keith Guerra sends the following message to the Roosevelt Island community.
I am looking to fill the part-time position of School Crossing Guard.
I would prefer an island resident with the time to put in 3 hours a day,
during the school year. The hours are 7:45 AM to 8:45 AM, 11:45 AM to
12:45 PM & 2:45 PM to 3:45 PM. The job pays $15 per hour (or $45 a
day). The School Crossing Guard will be issued a uniform and trained to
cross children at the appropriate crosswalk. Those with interest in
this position should fill out a RIOC application and submit it to the
Director of Public Safety.

Are you saying that if you pay the school crossing guard less money he or she will take care less about the children? How would that be possible when your only duties are stopping cars (which would stop nonetheless with or without such guard).
the cars do -not- stop without a guard! my kids have nearly been hit several times, twice by cars that whipped around someone stopped at the stop sign. a guard like those by the rioc offices would help.
and yes, you get what you pay for. we have airport screeners paid rotten wages, and we get rotten airport security and rotten attitudes.
by the way - if that is such a huge amount of cash for a nothing job, why don't you sign up? :)
Is it possible that the first anonymous was simply stating that it was a great job to get paid $15/hr. for doing that. It did not sound like a complaint to me. I believe someone that gets paid that much would actually perform tat job better than if they were paid less. Maybe both of you should take turns and do this job and I bet that after a while each one of you would want to get this job for themselves. Why does a simple discussion about a crossing guard's salary and job has to turn into an ugly argument. only on Roosevelt Island, I guess. Get a life people. From the famous words of EMINEM, "will the real Anonymous, please stand up?" LOL
I strongly believe that this job should come with a Segway so that when the Anonymous drivers do not stop, I can chase them and give them a ticket or a piece of my mind for not stopping for the kids and the elderly. Then I can be a Speed Racer with an Attitude just like the Public Safety Officers that by the way, DO NOT stop at the stop signs. :-), especially if they are going for Free Pizza at Nonno's. LOL
