Leave The Gun, Take The Cannoli With La Bella Torte - Roosevelt Island's First Mobile Food Truck Makes It's Debut Tonight With Italian Pastries
Roosevelt Island's first mobile food truck made its debut this evening, La Bella Torte, specializing in Italian deserts. According to La Bella Torte web site:
Welcome to La Bella Torte, a dessert truck specializing in Italian Pastries. Started by Joe and AnnMarie Glaser after finding themselves out of work. He a plumber, she a secretary, they found themselves with a love for baking, and a need to make money. So they gathered their resources, went to culinary school and came out pastry chefs. Once that was done they decided to take over the world one cannoli at a time, so they found a truck grabbed their cakes and took it on the road....Here's their truck menu:
Cannoli
Banana Nutella Cake
Rosemary Olive Oil &Blood Orange Cake
Cake Truffles
Chocolate Salted Caramel Tart
Cholate dipped Keylime Pie
Tiramisu
According to NY Street Food:
... In the cannoli, I opted for the chocolate chip filling, which Joe squeezed fresh into the pastry shell. He then sprinkled some confectioner’s sugar on top. Some people, like my father-in-law, will only eat cannolis if they are freshly filled. I totally understand. When I saw the La Bella Torte Food Truck about an hour ago, it was parked on the West Promenade between the Tram and Subway Station.
The thick, creamy filling was awesome. And there was some nuance to it, with what tasted like a hint of nutmeg in the cream filling. Most bites had chocolate chips too. Excellent cannoli, Joe.
A rosemary olive oil cake didn’t sound all that appealing to me at first, but my wife wanted to try it, and Joe suggested it too. I usually associate rosemary and olive oil with chicken, not cake, but this was superb....
More Food Truck are on their way to Roosevelt Island.
