On Saturday, October 11th 2014, the Roosevelt Island Operating Corporation will present the annual Fall for Arts Festival on Roosevelt Island. We are seeking artists or groups to each paint one of several 6-by-8-foot murals outdoors during the Festival.
Through the years, this celebration of creativity and the changing seasons has become a much-loved tradition for children and adults alike. This year, our theme is “A Multicultural Renaissance,” celebrating Roosevelt Island’s diversity and invoking the magic and artistic sensibilities of medieval times. One of the event’s most unique and well-loved traditions is a combination of performance art and traditional painting: the creation of free-standing murals outdoors during the Festival. All participating artists will receive a free 2014 t-shirt.
When: Saturday, October 11th, 10 AM – 4 PM
Where: Southpoint Park & the lawn south of 531 Main Street, Roosevelt Island NY 10044
How to Apply: We invite you to submit a sketch of your design or any inquiries to Anna.Rankin@rioc.ny.gov along with a title and short description. Sketches should be sized according to a 6 x 8 ratio.
Submission Deadline: September 26th, 2014
Participation in this event is free; paints, brushes, and a primed surface are provided! All participating artists will also receive a free festival t-shirt. Once complete, murals will stay on display at the parks for several weeks. Selected works will be displayed at the Island’s Motorgate Gallery through late 2015. All artworks will remain the property of the Roosevelt Island Operating Corporation and may be displayed on Roosevelt Island to beautify the community in the future.
We welcome your participation and creativity – good luck!
