Sharp eyed residents noticed Roosevelt Island made an appearance in the trailer for the new Marvel Avengers Infinity War movie.

Spider-Man Returns To Roosevelt Island Today - Can He Save Roosevelt Island Tram Riders Again?

Spider-Man returned to Roosevelt Island this afternoon. He must have heard about the long lines at the Roosevelt Island Tram Station this weekend and wanted to make sure everybody was OK.

I met with the Super Hero in front of the Roosevelt Island F train station as Spider Man was looking back towards the Tram and Queensboro Bridge.

Satisfied that Tram riders were safe, Spider-Man prepared for his next Roosevelt Island adventure.

Taking the Tram or Ferry

back to Manhattan since there was no F Train service.

Dark Knight Spotted Overlooking Roosevelt Island - Batman's Atop The Queensboro Bridge

Who was that masked man atop the Queensboro Bridge overlooking Roosevelt Island. Was it the Caped Crusader himself. The answer comes from Roosevelt Island resident Marcovalerio Melis who captured the Dark Knight in this video last November and finally reveals it to the public. (UPDATE 4:45 PM - You have to be logged into Facebook to see the video)



The next Batman movie, The Dark Knight was filming scenes on the Queensboro Bridge last November.

Fortunately, there was no need for Batman to save Roosevelt Island Tram riders as Spiderman had to once do.

Back to our world now with some more good news that the second Tram Cabin made it's way this morning to join

and is now up on the track cable and taking test runs while undergoing emergency preparedness drills.

 

The new Tram Station doors for the North Cabin berth have also been installed.

An early November resumption of Roosevelt Island Tram service is still expected. RIOC President Leslie Torres latest Tram report stated:

Aerial Tramway Modernization – Engineering work is virtually completed. We’ve all seen the north cabin zipping back and forth as it undergoes extensive testing. The State Department of Labor and City Uniformed Services will be here soon to inspect the north side. Work hanging the cabin on the south side is about to commence. Once all the testing is completed and DOL signs off, we will have a fully operating system. Thank you for your patience as RIOC undertakes the steps necessary to assure a safe and efficient aerial tramway service.

On a day not very long ago, a normal ride on the Roosevelt Island Tram was interrupted by an attack from the Green Goblin. Then, out of nowhere comes Spiderman to the rescue of Tram passengers dangling out over the East River.

Hello Everyone,

Summer is finally here! We are excited to present our annual Free Outdoor Movie Series starting this Saturday, June 26th at Firefighters Field. Thie series will feature movies filmed over the years on Roosevelt Island commemorating the 40th anniversary of the signing of the General Development Plan for the R.I. community.

Our first feature film will be "Spiderman". Films will begin at dusk- 8:30 PM (8:05 PM for screenings in August), but patrons are invited to come at 7 PM and enjoy great pre-show music, entertainment and food for purchase. So, Bring your family and friends, lawn chairs & blankets, and enjoy a fantastic evening at Firefighters Field!

Roosevelt Island Temporary Tram Outage Yesterday - Did Spiderman Saves The Roosevelt Island Tram From Green Goblin?

There was a temporary outage yesterday on the Roosevelt Island Tram.

What happened? You're not going to believe it. According to this You Tube Video, a normal trip on the Roosevelt Island Tram was interrupted when suddenly it was attacked by the Green Goblin. Then, out of nowhere Spider Man came to the rescue of Tram passengers dangling over the East River. (The action starts just after the 2 Minute mark of video.)

Well, not really. This is what did happen.
According to the 12/10-11 Roosevelt Island Public Safety Report:

Tram Temporary Outage - Tram employee called PSD to report that the tram was out of service. Condition was corrected and tram resumed service.

Roosevelt Island Public Safety Director Keith Guerra provides some additional details:

Yes, the Tram was out of service for approximately 45 minutes. The Control Panel indicated a problem with the Hydraulic System, while the Tram was in the Station. Our Tram Engineers immediately went into "Trouble-shoot" mode and rectified the problem. There were no injuries to any passengers.

The temporary tram outage did cause some additional problems for some disabled residents according to first comment from this post:

This morning's brief Tram outage left a few disabled people challenged when they got to the subway and got out at 63rd St and discovered no elevator service.

I like the Spiderman story better.

Apparently, there was quite a controversy over the Spiderman movie shoot on Roosevelt Island. According to the May 5 2001 Main Street WIRE:

Roosevelt Island ended last week with a transportation crisis brewing. As of late Friday night, RIOC staff members were set to sign over the Tramway to Columbia Pictures most of Tuesday through Saturday or Sunday.

By Monday night, as residents gathered for a Town Meeting hastily called by Residents Association (RIRA) President Matthew Katz, parents concerned over transportation of their children were ready to go on the attack with questions and criticisms of everything about the plan, which would have taken the cable car out of service from noon on each day....

There always seems to a some sort of transportation problem here on Roosevelt Island.
