RIOC field personnel have completed their initial assessment of the island and as a result the following advisories are in effect:
For your continued safety, all parks  and recreational areas remain closed due to high winds, ground saturation and falling trees.  This will be strictly enforced by the RI Public Safety Department.
Please remain inside throughout the day as the weather forecast indicates the tail end of this storm includes strong gusts of wind.
All transportation systems on the island remain suspended.
Sincerely,

Roosevelt Island Operating Corp Advisories Group
Just got back after taking a tour of Roosevelt Island from Southtown to Lighthouse Park. For the most part, Hurricane Irene left Roosevelt Island undamaged except for some light East River flooding earlier in the morning and fallen trees. There were several trees torn from their roots at the Cabobianco Ball Field, Blackwell Park, behind Manhattan Park and Lighthouse Park. Here are two huge downed tree in Capobianco Park by the ball field on the south side of Roosevelt Landings.

There was also a tree that looked like it was about to fall at the Community Garden. Several residents asked the guys from the Fire Station to put yellow tape around the area to warn others and the FDNY did so.

Will have more later. Thanks everyone for all the information and photos you sent over. I'm glad that Roosevelt Island came out of this OK.
