Was That A Hawk, Falcon Or Osprey On Roosevelt Island Main Street Lamp Post Today?

Roosevelt Island Historical Society President Judy Berdy spotted this bird perched on top of a Roosevelt Island Main Street lamp post earlier today

before it flew off into Capobianco Park.

I was told that the bird is not a Hawk or a Falcon but an Osprey who feeds on the Roosevelt Island pigeons and rats.

Anybody know for sure?

That's a Red-tailed hawk.

Yes, a Red-tailed hawk. BTW, ospreys (sometimes known as fish hawks, do not eat pigeons and rats, live almost exclusively on fish, with an occasional mouse or insect.

What a magnificent creature! Although I doubt he lives here, has anyone spotted his nest on RI?

Maybe he's an offspring of Pale Male http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pale_Male?

For further, wonderful photos of Pale Male see http://www.palemale.com/
