Also, the Roosevelt Island Twitterverse reports on what appears to be an accident involving the Red Bus and a vehicle at the Tram Station Friday evening.
Why are there 2 police cars and an out of service red bus in the middle of the street right by the tramway?? And nobody there to provide updates or alert people the bus isn’t running? @Rooseveltisland @RIOCny pic.twitter.com/sgIPkSFm5d— Alessandro Monetti (@AlexMonetti_) December 8, 2019
RIOC repled via Twitter with more details as to what happened.
A Red Bus almost struck a driver who was illegally parked in the bus stop. Fortunately, no one was hurt in the incident.— RIOC NYS (@RIOCny) December 8, 2019
The Twitterverse followed up asking why the Tram Red Bus North stop was changed.
Also, the Red Bus stop in its current location precludes riders from taking the Q102, should a Q102 arrive before the Red Bus.— J Robert Burgoyne (@jrobertburgoyne) December 9, 2019
Totally agree! What is the reasoning?— Chris Yonner (@YonnerNYC) December 9, 2019
UPDATE 12:25:
The bus was originally moved from the area in front of the tram due to the constant construction equipment traffic in the area. Now that it has subsided for the moment, the stop has been restored.— RIOC NYS (@RIOCny) December 9, 2019
UPDATE 3:05 PM - From RIOC:
No one is dodging any questions. Customers like the bus to stop at the designated shelter near the tram. It is easier for visitors to the island to find and, when traffic laws are obeyed, it is a viable route for buses.— RIOC NYS (@RIOCny) December 9, 2019
UPDATE 4:35
Yeah it’s ridiculous. And tourists barely even take the northbound red bus. Most of them get off the tram and walk south. @RIOCny making zero sense once again.— Alessandro Monetti (@AlexMonetti_) December 9, 2019
UPDATE 12;25 Also, RIOC announced today:
