That's the stupidest thing I've ever heard. The real reason it shouldn't be built there is strictly respect.
If the muslims who want to build this community center/mosque didn't want to shove it up America's rear end, they'd build it somewhere else, BUT they DO want to shove it up our rear ends. That's why this is an issue, because the liberals out there don't care about our rear end. They hate America.
Of course they have the RIGHT to build there. Whether they SHOULD is a completely different story.
P.S. Even the Charlton Heston thing misses the mark because the NRA didn't sponsor the Columbine tragedy. You wanna say Islam didn't sponsor the WTC. Okay, we'll dumb it down some more. The Columbine kids weren't NRA members. Therefore, making the NRA a villain is baseless.
Yes, they should. I am ashamed that this is even a question. Not building there is admission that the Muslim religion is the cause for the 9/11 attacks. For goodness sake.
And you know what? It is not even a mosque. It is going to be a community center that will have some space for religious ceremonies. And it is two blocks away from the WTC site.
The ignorance is mind-numbing. And what's even scarier? It brings all the bigots together. What the hell is happening to this country?
I want this community center to be build. But then I am also afraid that it will be under constant attack by ignorants and bigots.

I wouldn't care where a mosque is built other than that location. It's being built there specifically to say Eff You. We're at war with terrorism. There's only a percentage of muslims that sponsor/partake in terrorism, but there are casualties in every war, right? So, maybe some decent muslims can't build a mosque there, whoopie, build it somewhere else if you have any compassion.

"War with terrorism". You drank the Kool-Aid, didn't you? Besides the bizarre concept of being in war with something as abstract as terrorism, the Islam has as much to do with terrorism as any other religion in the world.
If anybody needs to be told to "Eff off" it's the ones who keep trying to prevent the erection of the cultural center. If we don't build it there (two blocks away from the WTC center is a long way in NYC where two adjacent blocks can be like night and day) and now (almost 10 years after the fact) we admit that terrorism has won. Is there anything left that needs to be said?
